  • Year 2 Day Trip to Water Activity Centre

    Fri 27 Jun 2014

Friday started very wet but everyone's spirits were high.  After a brief registration in the hall the Year 2 Wharf Trip was ready to begin.  We zipped up our coats, put our hoods up and gritted our teeth as we made our way down to the wharf in what can only be described as heavy rain!

After arriving at the wharf we quickly gathered in the outdoor classroom as it offered us shelter from the rain.  However, we soon discovered that even the outdoor classroom was having a tough time standing up to the weather.  We had our drink and snack and set to it!  The first activity was playing games on the big open space, this was great fun as even the adults were joining in.  Then we put our hand to making rockets  with Mrs Banbury.  This was great fun and allowed us to work as a pair to create something that we could then play with.

As the rain started to slow down Mr Burrows decided it was time to take us onto the water.  We had our safety talk, learned how to use the equipment properly and prepared ourselves for some fun on the water.  It was great fun!  We were all on the water at the same time!  Ernest gave his bell boat a task to complete.  The children had to search around the edge of the lake and find numbered signs, needless to say we did this in good time and got every answer right!

It was then time for lunch.  At this point the sun decided to show its face and gave us 45 minutes of dry warm weather...perfect timing!  After lunch we were given a tricky challenge to complete.  We had to use our eyes and ears to find clues hidden around the wharf.  There were so many clues in some really tricky places but we all managed to finish the challenge.

BOOM, CLAP, BANG!  Here comes the thunder.  As we set off to school the rain and thunder came faster than ever and shocked a few of us.  As we arrived back into the school hall we changed into our dry clothes and had a fantastic circus skills session.  We all learnt something new and thoroughly enjoyed it!

Thank you to all the adults involved for making our day such fun!

Well done to all the Year 2 children who came along on the wharf trip, your behaviour and enthusiasm was second to none!

  • Year 2 Mablethorpe Trip Day 2

    Fri 27 Jun 2014

Many children (other than the bottom boys) were early risers... the top girls even had to go and wake the teachers!
Everyone ate a big breakfast and packed their bags very well before heading off across a rainy beach, taking in the physical and natural features, to the lifeboat station.
We learnt lots in the lifeboat station from Carl who told us all about the different boats - the children even got to ride in one of them!
Another rainy walk back to the Children's Centre we dried off and had our lunch before heading back to Westfield!

Everyone was excellently behaved and had a wonderful time with so many memories to treasure forever. All the adults are very proud of everyone over the two days.

    Well done Year 2!!

  • Year 2 Mablethorpe Trip - On the way!

    Thu 26 Jun 2014

What a beautiful morning for the start of the Year 2 trip to Mablethorpe! Hope everyone has a wonderful time!

  • Year 2 Mablethorpe Trip Day 1

    Thu 26 Jun 2014
After an early start and a long journey on the coach we made it to Mablethorpe. A quick drink and we were ready to go on the beach for some sandcastle building and paddling in the sea!!
After a trip on the sand train (wishing to go deeper into the water) we made it to the Seal Sanctuary. We all bought something exciting from the shop and went around the sanctuary looking at the different animals and learning new information in the 'Time Trail'.
We then said 'so long, farewell' to the day trip children and everyone else walked back along the beach to get ready for dinner! Another hour was then spent at the beach with many games being played including football against the teachers.
Before bed, we watched the Sound of Music and drank hot chocolate. Everyone fell asleep quickly because of how tired they were from their first day in Mablethorpe.

  • Mr Noah - Reception

    Tue 24 Jun 2014

The reception children thoroughly enjoyed watching a performance by Mr Noah who told the story of Noah's Arc. Mr Noah used everyday objects large and small to tell his tale and the children had many laughs throughout. The children have continued learning about the story of Noah's Arc in their classrooms. They have acted out the story in the role play area, counted animals (two by two), created a story board to sequence the story and made their very own dove who is carrying a twig in its beak. The children will think of the story each time they see a Rainbow now! They have learnt how rainbows are created and have enjoyed painting them an even writing rainbow poems! Another fantastic performance that has inspired so much learning, well done children!

  • Year 1 Assembly

    Tue 24 Jun 2014
Year 1 enjoyed sharing lots of interesting facts that they had learned about the Wharf and Ashby Canal. Reception and Year 2 pupils and parents/carers were also treated to two songs, also a poem written by our very own poet Mrs Leeson! During the assembly pupils were also keen to share canal art and narrow boat names that they had created. At the end of the assembly pupils had the opportunity to thank Steve Burrows and Mrs Ratcliffe who had helped organise the exciting visits to the Wharf and the Marina.
After the assembly parents/carers had the opportunity to share all the interesting follow up work pupils have completed in their Wow Work folders and look at the fantastic canal displays in the classrooms.
Thank you to all the parents/carers who were able to attend and share in all the exciting learning that has taken place in Year 1 over the past few weeks.

  • Recorder Assembly

    Fri 20 Jun 2014

What a treat we all had today as the Recorder Group played for us during assembly.

Mrs Parkes introduced the second Recorder Group, who have been only learning to play for 15 weeks.

The Recorder Group played 5 songs beautifully.  Well done!

  • Class 5 visit to the Wharf

    Fri 20 Jun 2014

Row row row your boat gently down the... Canal!

Wow what an amazing day! Class 5 were very busy doing lots of activities at the Wharf.
They learnt about the secret tunnel, sssshhhh! You will find out about it in our Canal Assembly on Tuesday. They had such a fun time learning how to paddle and some children even had to pull the boat! After all that hard work they had the chance to do some observational drawings of narrow boats and even played a game of I-spy writing down all the things we could see! We all walked down to the Marina and investigated the names of the narrow boats that were moored there and even had the chance to look inside one. We saw the family of swans too!

At the end of the day Mr Burrows asked us some questions and we won prizes, they were a fender and a swans egg!

We had a great day and even had time for a few games at lunch time. Well done to all the children, you were all so well behaved and made the most out of the super opportunity. The grown ups are really proud of you! Thank you also to the grown ups at home who all sent the children in really well prepared.

It will take a few days to sort out the finances and as soon as we have the total raised we will let you know. The money will then be spent on resources that the children will need for the new Computing Curriculum next academic year!
Once again many thanks to the WISA members and the staff who ran all the stalls and most importantly thank you to all the families who attended the event .

  • Neovia Eco-Warrior Awards 2014

    Thu 19 Jun 2014

Some children from the Year 2 Eco-Warriors went to the Caterpillar site in Desford for the 6th annual Neovia Eco Awards. We presented to some other schools about what we did as Eco-Warriors at Westfield Infant School.
The children then got to see some Caterpillar machinery, complete a fire safety quiz and met Dave, a man who has lived in different rainforests.

Everyone behaved wonderfully and had a fantastic day out! The children also received a goodie bag of treats to take home.

Well done everyone! You have made both myself and Mrs Singleton very proud!
