  • The Great British Spring Clean

    Fri 12 Apr 2019

Today we ended a very busy term with a big Spring Clean. We all worked together to make sure the grounds were looking shiny for when we return after Easter.

The children and adults had great fun cleaning the railings, washing the signs and collecting rubbish. Maybe you could carry on cleaning at home during the Easter holiday.

Thank you to everyone who helped, the school looks great.

We also looked at the new plaque in the Thinking Garden. This is to remember Christopher Palk who would have celebrated his 21st birthday this April. We hope his family will be pleased to see a nice shiny plaque. The Westfield family will always remember him.

  • Easter Assembly

    Fri 12 Apr 2019

We had a very busy assembly today.

We started by celebrating 6th and 7th birthdays and any children who had certificates and awards to share.

The teaching staff also had a lot of certificates to give out today for Mudbusters, Multisports, Junior Librarians, WOW Club and Football.

After a fantastic Easter Bonnet parade (there were some incredible bonnets) Mrs MacLauchlan showed us the Easter basket, which is filled with information about Easter.  She talked about all the different things associated with Easter and the meaning behind them.  It is good to remember the reason we celebrate at Easter time, it is not just all about chocolate!

The WISA raffle was then drawn. We had 20 fantastic prizes and all the winners were very happy. Thank you to everyone who supported the raffle by donating items and  buying tickets. The assembly  finished with us singing everyone's favourite song Spring Chicken.

Staff and Governors hope that all Westfield families have a lovely Easter break. See you all on Monday 29 April 2019.

  • WISA Easter Bingo

    Thu 11 Apr 2019

Tonight was the annual WISA Easter Bingo. Many of the families and friends of Westfield Infant School joined in for 5 games of Bingo. The winners selected a prize from a great selection of Easter treats. With heads down and pens in hand, Mr Squires led the event. Plenty of raffle tickets were also purchased during the evening for the WISA Easter  Raffle. This will be drawn during the final assembly of the term tomorrow morning. Thank you to all adults and children who attended and participated with a great attitude to winning and losing!

The WISA committee would also like to thank everyone who donated prizes for the Easter Bingo, refreshments that were sold during the evening and items for the hamper.

  • Boundary Farm Visit

    Wed 10 Apr 2019

We had a wonderful visit to the farm this afternoon in the lovely sunshine.

It was great to see Farmer Richard and Rachael again as well as their son Farmer Tom.

We found out that Boundary farm is a dairy farm so they have lots of cows that produce milk. They have beef cows at the farm too! Cows are very hungry animals and we learnt that they eat 50kg of food a day, that's about the weight of 3 children! They eat sugar beat, straw and silage which is chopped up grass. The children thought this smells like pears! The cows also drink a whole bath tub full of water every day, about 90 litres!

We noticed that the cows barn was very mucky. We found out about the slurry pit that the muck is swept in to every night. This manure is then used on the fields as fertiliser.

We visited the calves too and they drank milk and they licked rock salt which comes from the Himalayas! This gives them the minerals they need for a balanced diet.

We visited the sheep and lambs in the field. These lambs were only 3 weeks old!

Finally we visited the milking parlour where we found out how to milk the cows!

The children were so well behavaed and had a fantastic learning experience. They are looking forward to telling everyone about their visit after Easter.

  • Year 1 Fire Safety

    Wed 10 Apr 2019

The Year 1 children all took part in a Fire Safety session that taught them about the dangers and risks that fire can cause. All the children were very engaged and impressed the local Fire Officer with their knowledge and sensible answers.

They learnt how to act when they are faced with certain dangers and events. STOP, DROP and ROLL was a technique taught and as you can see from the photos the children were able to practice this taught method. The children were also told when and how to crawl to find help or safety whilst shouting the word FIRE!

The Fire Safety Officer talked about fire alarms and smoke alarms and explained how important they are. Please can all the parent and carers check that your smoke alarms are working and up to date!

For more information on Fire Safety please visit the link below...

  • Hinckley Parks Football Tournament

    Mon 08 Apr 2019

Today, some children from Westfield Infant School attended Hinckley Parks Primary School for a football competition. The excitement was building as the bus left after lunch.

The children found out their teams and who their teammates were going to be. Soon the discussion on who was going to play in which position started. The first matches kicked off at 1:40pm and both teams played 6 matches against local schools (KS1).

The children enjoyed the competition and experienced winning, losing and drawing. Luckily the weather stayed dry, perfect footballing conditions. Furthermore the children got to wear the brand new Westfield Infant School Football kit, which looked very smart!

Please take a look at the photos below.

  • The Chicks meet the Year 2 Children

    Fri 05 Apr 2019

This afternoon the chicks came out to meet all the Year 2 Children!

Everyone got the chance to hold a chick and give them a stroke. They felt so soft with all their new, fluffy feathers.

The children loved holding them and were very excited but remembered to be quiet and hold them carefully.

The chicks loved meeting all the children and are looking forward to visiting all the reception and year 1 classes next week.

  • Fitness in Schools - Thank you!

    Fri 05 Apr 2019

Today in assembly Mrs MacLauchlan thanked the whole school for the amazing fundraising they did as part of Fitness in Schools Day. The donations and sponsor money has enabled us to send a cheque from the school for £1,500. Mrs MacLauchlan told the children about the work of LOROS and what a special place it is.

The child in each class who had collected the most sponsorship money/donations received a small prize as a thank you. However ALL the donations and sponsor money helped to make this fantastic total and everyone should be proud of their efforts. Brian phoned school today and Mrs Babic told him the news and he was very happy and he said 'Well done again Westfield! You are my favourite school'.

Thank you to all parents/carers and members of the community who have helped to make this fund raising such a great success!

  • Class 1 Assembly - Australia

    Thu 04 Apr 2019

Today Class 1 took some inspiration from some of the lovely Catherine Barr books they have been looking at and told us 10 things we might not know about Australia.

They showed us some amazing paintings of some of the sea creatures that live in the barrier reef.  Can you name any?

After singing two songs about fishes, Mrs Wood told us that the first people to inhabit Australia were the Aborigines and some children showed us some of the fantastic dot pictures they had drawn.

Next we were treated to some Aboriginal music.  We heard the strange and sometimes funny noises the instruments made.  Which was your favourite?

Class 1 finished by singing 5 fish swim in the water so.

What a great assembly!  Well done Class 1!
