  • Mothering Sunday at United Reformed Church

    Sun 30 Mar 2014

It was really great to see so many Westfield families at the United Reformed Church for the Mothering Sunday Service. Thank you to everyone who attended and made a big effort to be on time, especially when you lost an hours sleep!

Before the Service started the children were very engaged in the Spring word search and waited patiently for the service to start.

The choir sang beautifully and the recorder group impressed us all! As you can see by looking at the photographs everyone had a very happy time with their families.

After the service the children had the opportunity to participate in some arts and craft activities. They made some lovely gifts for the special ladies in their life. Everyone also had the opportunity to enjoy a drink and some biscuits the children had made specially for the event!

  • Space Afternoon

    Thu 27 Mar 2014

It was lovely to see so many parent/carers join us to share the space topic work. The children shared their work in their books. There was art work and alien puppets on display. The exhibition of space models (homework) was amazing and finally we had a fun space quiz! Thank you to every one who came, it was a super afternoon.

  • Class 1 Assembly

    Thu 27 Mar 2014

What a fantastic assembly from Class 1!  They flew us to Australia on 'Westfield Air' (complete with cabin crew, pilot and late passengers!).  When we arrived in Australia they showed us some amazing pictures of native animals, some great aboriginal art and even read us some postcards they had written.  Then it was off to the Sydney Opera House for a story all about Tiddalick the very thirsty frog.

Wonderful acting, lovely singing and the instruments were played brilliantly.  Well done Class 1!

  • Visit from Julia Jarman

    Wed 19 Mar 2014

What a wonderful day the children have had! During assembly they met a 'real life' author Julia Jarman. She began by showing us the many books she has written. Some of which are familiar to the children as each class has contributed to a display around her book titles. Julia was very impressed when she saw the children's artwork!

Julia shared with us one of our favourite stories written by her 'Big Red Bath'. We all loved listening to Julia read it and we were fascinated to find out how she got her ideas for the book. Julia then taught us her 'cross song' from her book 'Class 3 Went To Sea'. We all enjoyed singing along with actions too!

After the assembly Year 1 children had fun completing lots of activities around Julia's story 'Big Blue Train'.

Julia spent the rest of her day working in Year 2. She spent time in each class talking to the children about how she gets her ideas, planning stories and writing them. The children then spent time getting ideas together to write their own stories.

Finally at the end of the day lots of children visited the book sale and purchased Julia Jarman books and these lucky children were able to get them signed by the author!

  • Class 2 Assembly

    Fri 14 Mar 2014

Today Class 2 did a fantastic assembly all about the book The Smartest Giant in Town by Julia Donaldson.  They acted out the story and we all learnt why the giant was called the smartest giant.  They did some amazing singing and showed us some paintings they had made of gowns for the giant.  The assembly was finished off with some of the children reading some of the kind things they had done and talked about during circle time.

What a fantastic assembly!  Well done Class 2!
