The Year 1 children who have attended Bollywood Dancing Club this term performed to the rest of the school during assembly this morning. Everyone was very impressed!

Then the persona dolls Kira and Cole who will soon be flying to India joined in and took advantage of a photo opportunity. As you can see it was difficult to take the photographs of Kira and Cole in action as they put so much effort into the Bollywood Dancing!

    Thu 28 Nov 2013
Class 8 worked very hard to produce a fantastic class assembly! We retold the story of Going on a Bear Hunt. The children all chose their own parts for the class assembly, they could choose between being an actor, a musician, a reader or an extra. Well done Class 8!!
  • Family Learning Celebration Assembly

    Wed 27 Nov 2013

Today we held a Celebration Assembly for the parents/carers who have been attending the Family Learning Literacy and Numeracy course this term. The adults were able to share with everyone what they had learnt by attending the sessions and the children also showed us some of the learning they have been doing at home.

The most important thing is that everyone has had fun whilst they have been learning!

Next term Marion will be running another course so if you are interested please look out for the information. The handwriting workshops will also continue so again look out for information and if you would like to help your child with his/her handwriting make sure you sign up and come and join in the fun!

Well done to those parents/carers who have given up the time to attend the sessions every Wednesday afternoon. We hope you enjoyed the children singing the Well Done song to you!

  • Y1 Knight School

    Wed 27 Nov 2013

This week Year 1 pupils attended a Knight School. Their training as squires involved jousting on horseback, battle training and making bow and arrows. The pupils were Knighted at the end of the session and were able to take their bow and arrow home.
The effort put in by all the pupils was great and we would like to say a huge thankyou to Mrs Ratcliffe and Miss Banbury for turning Year 1 into excellent Knights for the day.

  • Winner of Christmas Card Competition and Name the Persona Dolls!

    Fri 22 Nov 2013

This morning during assembly three children had a BIG surprise. First of all came the announcement of the Christmas Card Design competition. Earlier in the term all the children had the opportunity to design a card for printing. Mrs MacLauchlan likes to choose a favourite design each year and send it to all her family and friends.

The winning design this year features a Christmas Tree and a Snowman and Mrs MacLauchlan had seen the fun that had been had during the session when the card was being designed. Well done to everyone and thank you to Mrs Wood for organising the Christmas Card design sessions!

Then it was time to find out the names of dolls who will shortly be leaving to live in India. These two Persona Dolls are going to help the children in India have a better understanding of what it is like to be a pupil at Westfield Infant School. Mrs Lesson is very busy making a book with photographs showing all the things that happen at Westfield Infant School each week and the two dolls are featuring throughout the book!

They needed names for their passports and a lot of children had entered the competition with some great ideas. However the dolls have now been named......

    Kira and Cole

Well done to everyone for your great ideas and also thank you for telling us what you like about Westfield Infant School. All this information will be included in the book Mrs Leeson and Mrs MacLauchlan will be taking to India.

  • Class 9 Assembly

    Thu 21 Nov 2013

Class 9's assembly was about being careful with litter.

We showed things that can be recycled; including paper, plastic and glass.

We also read a poem written by Class 9 about rubbish and how we like to recycle and sang the Eco Warrior song.

Everyone played a fantastic part in the assembly and made both Miss Ellis and Mrs Virk very proud.... Well done Class 9!!!

  • Year 2s working on the iPads

    Wed 20 Nov 2013
Mr Dickenson (and iPad expert!) came in to Westfield Infant school today to work with a 2 groups of year 2 pupils. As the pupils had been learning about castles recently he gave them the opportunity to work with an app called 'epic citidal' whereby they could 'look inside' a castle! The pupils had an fabulous time exploring the castle, they excitedly talked about what they saw and worked with their friends to get them to the same places! They began talking about what might have happened in the castle and Mr Dickenson showed them how to take photographs of the places they found. At the end of the session they were introduced to 'book creator for iPads app' and began to add their photographs to make their own books! Well done to all the Year 2 pupils who took part in the session - they will now be the experts when they go back to their classes when they use the app in the future!  Thank you Mr Dickenson!
  • Year 1 Visit to Tamworth Castle

    Wed 20 Nov 2013
Year 1 staff were very proud of the Year 1 pupils and class 7 today! We all went to Tamworth Castle and had a great day. Pupils had the opportunity to take a tour round the castle looking at all the key features that we have been learning at in our topic lessons this term. We became servants and had to help set the table ready for the Lord and Lady of the house to eat. Then came the Squire training where we looked at armour and weapons that the kights would have used to protect the castle, we even had training in how to use a bill in battle!
The children were all talking about the visit on the way back and all agreed that going to the top of the tower was one of the best bits.
Well done Year 1 for listening so well and asking lots of super sensible questions!
