  • End of Term Assembly

    Thu 24 Mar 2016

This morning we had a very long and exciting assembly. We celebrated 6th and 7th Birthdays until 10th April and Certificates. We also gave out other certificates for the Year 2 Reading Club and Mud Busters and awards for the Clean for the Queen Competition.

Mrs MacLauchlan reminded us about special days like last Sunday which was Palm Sunday, tomorrow which will be Good Friday and this Sunday which will be Easter Sunday. We sang the song 'We have a King who Rides a Donkey'

It was then time for the Bonnet Parade and everyone who was wearing an Easter Bonnet joined in the Year Group Easter Bonnet Parade. At one point everyone in the Reception classes stood up because they were ALL wearing an Easter Bonnet!

All the children were very patient because it was then time for the WISA Easter Raffle. There were 12 prizes and some very happy winners.

We sang a special song to Mrs Guest who is leaving today to start her Maternity Leave and we presented her with some gifts for her and Baby Guest. We look forward to seeing Mrs Guest back in school with her baby and she has promised to visit every class.

The assembly ended with everyone singing Yellow Daffodils.

Well done to all the children who made an Easter Bonnet or decorated an egg.

  • Easter Bingo

    Wed 23 Mar 2016

Tonight our WISA Annual Easter Bingo took place with plenty of families from Westfield Infant School in attendance. It was good to see some families from the Junior School able to attend. Mrs Dakin was our Bingo Caller, keeping all the games running smoothly. We had a great time and lots of tasty prizes were won by adults and children.

Well done children for your excellent behaviour and a big 'Thank You' to all those who kindly donated cakes to the event. At the next WISA meeting on 11th April at 2pm, the amount raised will be announced.

  • Year 1 Junk Model Dinosaurs

    Tue 22 Mar 2016

Year 1 had a fantastic afternoon designing and creating junk model dinosaurs! The children thought carefully about the features of a dinosaur and how they could include all these to make a model dinosaur out of junk. Children enjoyed being very creative with the junk and decorating their dinosaurs with lots of grown ups who kindly came to join in the fun. All sorts of dinosaurs were made: herbivores, carnivores, omnivores, dinosaurs with 2 legs or 4 legs, dinosaurs with plates on their back and some could even fly.

Well done to all of Year 1 for a brilliant effort. Enjoy playing with your dinosaurs at home!

  • Visitor in Year 1

    Fri 18 Mar 2016

Year 1 were lucky today as they got a visit from Miss Ellis' Dad, Mr Ellis! He spoke to the children about his job at a quarry. He also talked about how rock comes out of the ground and what it used for.

The children also learnt about keeping safe and they used what they know about keeping safe at school and related it to being safe at work.

Some lucky children also got to dress up as a quarryman!

    Thank you for visiting!

  • Book Winners!

    Fri 18 Mar 2016

Every year when the book sale is on, everybody who buys a book has the opportunity to enter a prize draw to win another book of their choice.  This year there were also some surprise prizes!  Five children were picked to choose a book because of how much reading they have done on Bug Club or for how much commitment and progress they have made with their reading.

Well done to Joshua (64 books), Gracie (165 books!), Jaxon (87 books), William, Max and Connor!

    Fri 18 Mar 2016

Well done to Class 6 for such amazing ocarina playing during this mornings assembly.

Class 6 have been learning how to play Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star and were all very proud to play it for their grown-ups and the rest of the school.  It was so amazing that Mrs MacLauchlan asked them to play it again so that everyone could join in with the singing!

    Well done again Class 6!

  • Year 2 enjoy working with Sally Grindley

    Thu 17 Mar 2016

Year 2 enjoyed a workshop with Sally Grindley and learnt all about the process of writing a book from start to finish. She reminded us that many changes take place before the final story is published into a book which was great to hear especially as we have been doing a lot of self-editing in our English lessons. Sally shared how she develops her ideas and even cuts out little shapes for flaps that she wants to appear in her books. She explained what a gate fold was – can you explain this to your adult? We looked at the how an illustrator develops pictures to match the story that Sally had written. We listened with much anticipation to the completed story called Shhh! a firm favourite bought from the bookstall. Our workshop ended with Sally sharing one of her Ark Adventures with us. She then worked with pupils to generate their own creative ideas suggesting some of the problems Noah might have encountered getting the different animals on to the ark.
