  • Year 1 Visitor

    Fri 30 Sep 2016

Today Mrs Simmons came into Year 1 with her baby boy, Freddy. Freddy is 9 weeks old and smiled (and slept) all the way through his visit to Westfield Infant School.

The children in Year 1 have been learning about babies and growth in their science lessons so it was a fantastic opportunity to continue our learning and ask some questions.

Blake was a very proud big brother as he helped his mum and baby brother with the questioning.

    Thank you Mrs Simmons!

  • Class 8 Assembly - Castles

    Fri 30 Sep 2016
In their class assembly on "Knights and Castles", Class 8 shared some of the exciting things they had been doing during their topic this half term. They have learnt a lot of interesting information about castles and the lives of the people who lived in them and they shared this with the rest of the school.  The children performed a play, "Herb, the Vegetarian Dragon", dressing as Medieval characters and acting brilliantly!  Also a group of children from Class 8 performed a Medieval dance they had planned themselves, accompanied by a group of musicians.  The assembly ended with a song all about the people who lived in a castle.  They really enjoyed sharing their learning and performing for their adults and friends.  Well done, Class 8!
  • Year 1 Memory Box Event

    Wed 28 Sep 2016

This Autumn Term the pupils in Year 1 have been learning about memories and toys from the past. For their Homework they have been bringing in baby photos and memorable items to create our own class museums. It was fantastic for them to have the opportunity to share what they have been learning with their adults.

Can you remember the differences between toys from the past and toys from the present?

Thank you to all that came along,

    Year 1 Team.

  • BBC Radio Leicester visit

    Mon 19 Sep 2016

Today staff from BBC Radio Leicester visited Westfield Infant School.  Helen, a reporter from Radio Leicester came to look at our new playground.

She thought that the playground was very colourful, even on a rainy day!  We told Helen about how the playground surface was funded with the support of the Lottery Funding Grants for All.

Listen out on BBC Radio Leicester to hear what everyone has got to say about the playground!

  • Class 9 Assembly - Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

    Fri 16 Sep 2016

Class 9's assembly was themed around the national 'Roald Dahl' day which celebrated the author's 100th birthday.

The audience were given a short synopsis of the story, meeting the golden ticket winners and finding out who won the greatest prize - the chocolate factory!

Children were keen to share facts about Roald Dahl, an acrostic poem about the many wonderful characters that Roald Dahl created and some of their own chocolate bar creations.

Can you remember where Roald Dahl wrote his books?

What was special about the paper he used?

We were reminded that chocolate and sweets are great as a special treat every now and then. All children were able to join in with our Westfield song 'Don't let your teeth go rotten'.

Well done Class 9 on a super assembly to start the new year.

  • Roald Dahl

    Thu 15 Sep 2016

On Tuesday 13th September, children all over the country celebrated Roald Dahl's 100th birthday.

Westfield Infant children in Year 1 and Year 2 had a special afternoon completing exciting activities linked to just a handful of the many books that Roald Dahl wrote over his lifetime for children, including Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, James and the Giant Peach and the Minpins. Towards the end of the afternoon, there was an opportunity for children to explore the activities in different classrooms. We also took a tour of the hall and main entrance, appreciating the hard work put in by children across the school to create our 'Roald Dahl 100th birthday' displays.

Roald Dahl has left a legacy of exciting, magical books for all children and adults to enjoy. Look out for them in the school library and local libraries so you too can meet some of the weird and wonderful characters including James, Mr Twit, the BFG and the girl who simply loved to read, Matilda!

  • Latest Pondicherry News

    Tue 13 Sep 2016

We have recently heard from Sister Rose sharing news that the much improved toilet blocks are now in use and telling us how much the girls appreciate them. The staff who have visited St Mathias School can fully appreciate what a fantastic improvement they are and you will just have to believe us but they are LUXURY compared to the previous facilities.

You will also see that the new ICT equipment is being put to good use and both the staff and the pupils are very happy with the much improved teaching and learning opportunities this offers.

Andrew Childs will be travelling back to India next weekend and everyone at Westfield Infant School sends our best wishes to him. Once he has settled back into life in Pondicherry we look forward to receiving further updates about how the girls are getting on with their studies and we have also asked Andrew to meet Sister Rose and discuss how we can support the school in the next project to improve the resources.

Look out for further updates from Pondicherry later in the term.
