  What a fantastic way to start the weekend!

   

  Today at Westfield Infant School we had great fun learning with our families. We learnt all about our chosen vocabulary words which links to our Route to Resilience project.

   

  Can you remember the words you have learnt about?

   

  Everyone had great fun visiting the different classrooms to build on each character muscle to help us become resilient children and adults. We got the opportunity to co-operate with each other as well as working independently. We used our perseverance skills even when we found things tricky and then showed great problem solving skills when completing physical activities.

   

  What other activities did you do? Which was you favourite?

• Baby Basics

  On Wednesday Mrs Hutchinson told us all about the charity Baby Basics Leicester.  She asked everyone if they could think of any things that babies need.  The children came up with some really good ideas such as bottles, blankets, toys, clothes, nappies, toiletries etc and some children came out to the front of assembly to show these things.

   

  Baby Basics Leicester provides baby equipment for people who may not be able to afford them.  Mrs Hutchinson asked us if we knew how much it cost to buy all the things you need and the answer was £226.52

   

  We are asking parents/carers if they have any new or nearly new baby equipment that they could donate to this charity.  There is a moses basket in the reception area for you to add items to.

• Power Maths Family Learning Workshop

  Unfortunately we have not yet received the resources to enable us to run the Power Maths Family Learning Session on Tuesday 25 September.  We have had to take the decision to postpone it until Monday 8 October, when we expect all the fantastic resources will have arrived.

  A brief explanation of what Power Maths is:

• Roald Dahl Day 2018

  Today is Roald Dahl Day and to celebrate the occasion each class have been reading one of Roald Dahl's famous stories! 

   

  This afternoon each class learnt about Roald Dahl's life.

   

  Can you remember what he used to do before he wrote books? 

   

  Each class then took part in an exciting activity based on the book they had been reading.

  We all had so much and love his stories.

• Year 2 Picnic

  This evening, many of the Year 2 pupils and their families came and enjoyed a picnic and play in the trim trail. The weather was perfect and plenty of tasty and healthy food was eaten. After the opportunity to meet other families in Year 2, there was the chance for pupils to show their families around the Year 2 Sunbeam Base and share a book together. Thank you to all Year 2 families that were able to attend this event!

  

• Year 1 Picnic

  Pupils in Year 1 have been enjoying their class picnics.  It has been a great opportunity to meet their friends and spend time with their grown ups. There was lots of activities set out on the field which seemed to be enjoyed by all. Everyone has had a lovely time and it has been great to meet you all.  

  

• Year 2 Local Area Walk

  Today pupils from Year 2 became 'Street Detectives' as we walked around the local area near our school.

   

  We looked at various features of the locality, including different types of houses and we thought about how the land had been used. 

   

  The walk was a brilliant opportunity to talk about road safety and we kept a look out for things in our local area designed to keep pedestrians safe including traffic crossings and bollards. 

   

  Child can you be 'Street Detectives' on your route to school? Talk to your grown ups about the types of buildings you see and the materials used to build them. 

  

• EYFS Dinnertime (Friday)

  Today some of the EYFS pupils had their first day at school.  They really enjoyed their dinner today and used our special times table plates.  After a delicious dinner they went out on to the playground to play with their friends.
