  • Easter Assembly

    Fri 27 Mar 2015

What a super end to the term! Pupils, parents/carers and staff enjoyed a fun packed Easter Assembly. Pupils joyfully sang the songs they’d been practising over the half term which included ‘It’s a beautiful day in Springtime’ and ‘Yellow Daffodils’. Following the success of Easter Bingo last night, the raffle was drawn and pupils eagerly awaited their name to be called for the chance to win a spectacular Easter hamper and delightful Easter eggs. The final FINS certificates were awarded to pupils who raised money earlier in the term and Mrs MacLauchlan praised and thanked pupils for their effort in supporting LOROS. She presented a WHS voucher to the pupil in each class who raised the highest amount of money and a much sought after WIS Bear was awarded to a pupil in Year 2 for raising a phenomenal amount!

Science Club certificates were also presented by Miss Ellis and Mrs Ratcliffe was finally available to give out the lovely keep-sake Forest School books to pupils who had had the chance to work outside during the term. After singing the ‘Easter Bonnet’ song each year group paraded their amazing Easter bonnets/headgear! Well done children – what a lot of effort you’ve put into making them. Pupils were reminded that decorated eggs would be on display for the remainder on the morning and each class would have the chance to admire them. Pupils were reminded of the meaning and reason we have Easter and we all stood to sing ‘We have a King…’

Finally it was time to say our thank yous and goodbyes to Mrs Ratcliffe and Mrs Moore. Mrs Ratcliffe quite obviously loved her ‘traditional WIS sendoff’ which included a song, reflecting her outgoing character! She was delighted to receive her Westfield Bear as well. We will REALLY miss Mrs Ratcliffe for her outstanding input and expertise in our outdoor learning curriculum. Mrs Moore was presented with a beautiful orchid for her support this term.

THANK YOU to all who attended and if you couldn’t make it, here’s a taster of morning…

HAVE A FANTASTIC AND SAFE EASTER!

  • Class 2 Assembly - Jack and the Beanstalk

    Thu 26 Mar 2015

Wow what a wonderful first assembly by Class 2! They all worked really hard to remember what they had to say and do and did a fantastic job. It was brilliant to hear the facts the children said about runner bean plants and great to see that growing takes place in the classroom as well as in the gardening plots!

Thank you to all the adults who came to watch Class 2's assembly.

  • Mothers Day Service at United Reformed Church

    Sun 15 Mar 2015

It was great to see so many Westfield families at The Mothering Sunday Service at The Church in the Borough today. The service came at exactly the right time for us to also celebrate the success of the choir in the National Schools Partnership; Thomas and Friends Birthday competition.

As you can see from the photographs the choir members who were able to come to the Service wore their fabulous T shirts that they had been presented with when they arrived at the Recording Studio last Wednesday!

During the Service the choir sang two songs; My Mum's One in a Million and The Lord loves us all just the same. An adult recorder group played and we enjoyed music from the Mundiband.

After the service the children had an opportunity to work on a gift for a special lady and we enjoyed drinks and biscuits that had been made by the children!

All donations made during the offertory will be divided between the Mission Fund for Madagascar and helping to provide an eco friendly service for the playground at St Mathias Primary School in Pondicherry, India.

  • Year 1 Dinosaur Craft Afternoon

    Fri 13 Mar 2015

The Year 1 topic this term has been 'Dinosaurs'. Today in Year 1, Parents/Carers were invited to attend a 'Dinosaur Junk Model Making' afternoon. We had a fantastic time using a range of materials and working alongside our adult to build some spectacular creations! It was a bit of a squash and a squeeze but we all worked really hard and were proud of our achievements!

Thank you to all Parents/Carers who attended to make the afternoon a success! A special thank you to those who contributed to the enormous amount of junk boxes, cartons and containers. Look out for news of the next Curriculum event in the Summer term!

  • Assembly - Friday 13 March

    Fri 13 Mar 2015

What a great assembly we had this morning.

The children wore their red noses for Comic Relief Day and we all sang one of our favourite songs 'Shake Your Sillies Out'.

We enjoyed making our faces silly! See if you can spot the staff behind the silly faces!

  • Class 3 Assembly - Goldilocks and the Three Bears

    Thu 12 Mar 2015

In today's assembly class 3 told us about the importance of eating breakfast, they gave us lots of different options that we could eat before we came to school. Eating breakfast would make our brains ready for a busy day of learning! Class 3 also sang songs about the different things you could have for breakfast.

So... what do you eat in the morning before coming to school?

Some of the children from Class 3 acted out the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears , Goldilocks loved porridge for breakfast! The children ended the story by singing a Goldilocks song.

All the children sang brilliantly and spoke in a very big voice for everyone to hear, Well Done Class 3!

  • The Choirs vist to a recording studio

Thu 12 Mar 2015 Mrs Parkes
Wow, what a fantastic day at the recording studio. When we first arrived we met so many people with microphones and cameras. Following a sound check we sang for the first time. Then we had to sing just the chorus followed by the verse. We had to do it again and again...and again. In the end the  recording engineer said it was good enough, phew, we were worn out. We stopped for lunch then we had to  sing one more time and  add cheers and happy birthday to Thomas. Everyone was really impressed and clapped us for ages. The whole thing was filmed and Freya and Seb were interviewed. Before we left the children were given an amazing goody bag, they also had a lovely printed T shirt. The children were very well behaved and made all the grown ups very proud of them. The film comes out in July so look out for it at a cinema near you! We may even get a sneak preview!!
