A great time was had by all at the Year 2 Leavers Disco Party after school today. We had 2 power cuts but thanks to Mr Short we were soon back in action!
B.J. the D.J. made sure we all had a great time dancing, playing games and some children had a special balloon model made just for them!
At the end of the afternoon everyone sat down together and enjoyed the treat of a choc-ice.
This morning the Year 2 pupils went to Westfield Community Centre to sing to members of the Westfield Branch of Age Concern. They sang a selection of songs from 'The Sound of Music' and also invited audience participation for some of them.
The audience were very complimentary and everyone agreed that the children were very clever for learning so many words!
During the summer term the Year 2 children have been learning a selection of songs from 'The Sound of Music'. During assembly this morning they invited parents/carers and family members to come and hear them sing the songs.
As you can see from the photographs the children had great fun singing to the rest of the school and their visitors.
Well done to all the Year 2 children and thank you to Mrs Parkes and Miss Hussey for their hard work in helping the children to prepare for the performance.
This evening the choir from Westfield Infant School joined the choir from Westfield Junior School and an adult choir called The Accord Singers at The United Reformed Church. It was a lovely relaxed occasion and the photographs of the Year 2 trip to Mablethorpe were displayed for everyone to see.
Each choir sang a selection of songs and then all 3 choirs joined together for the final song. At the end of the service everyone enjoyed Strawberries and Cream!
During the collection £120.00 was raised for Mablethorpe. This will be sent to Helen so that she can buy a selection of art/craft materials for the children to use......just in case they have a rainy day!
What a busy assembly we had this Friday! Mrs Parkes gave out certificates for the Recorder Group, Miss Dixon gave out certificates for the Country Dancing Club and Mrs MacLauchlan gave out the next lot of exciting parcels to the Letterbox gang.
Miss Bills then explained how Mrs Ratcliffe and Mrs Huddlestone had done a sponsored 'doggy paddle' and had canoed 19 miles down the canal. The money raised was enough to sponsor a guide dog puppy called Archie. Miss Bills then introduced Elaine and her gorgeous guide dog puppy called Zeke.
Elaine told us that Zeke was only 18 weeks old and was still at the beginning of his training. Zeke is learning all about how the world works and Elaine takes him to lots of places like shops, cafes and Zeke's favourite place McDonalds (where he eats all the chips off the floor!).
Elaine also told us that it is really important that if we meet a guide dog that we don't try and fuss it or call it. This is because the guide dog is busy working and is doing a very important job.
Today the Year 1 Ocarina group treated us to two songs they had learn to play on the ocarina. They have only been going to Ocarina Club for 5 weeks, so what a fantastic achievement!
They played Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star and London's Burning for us and both sounded great.
Well done!
It was great this morning to see so many parents/carers joining us for our assembly. They wanted to hear all about the Year 2 trip to Mablethorpe and the day trip to The Wharf!
The children have done some fantastic writing about the trip and a few of them shared their work. They had remembered everything about the 2 days in great detail!
Mrs MacLauchlan then had some certificates to give out and some special awards. Everyone had a special treat, including all the adults. It was a pity Mrs Fox was still on holiday and could not join us but Brumas collected her certificate and treat (yum, yum)!
There was a final award for 4 very lucky children because they were all presented with a seal to take home and look after.
Well done to everyone for wonderful behaviour during the 2 days and for representing the school so well. Thank you to the parents/careers for supporting the trip and for all your positive comments. Your children were a pleasure to be with.
