  • Year 2 Visit to Kenilworth Castle

    Fri 31 Oct 2014
Year 2 had a fantastic day at Kenilworth Castle. The weather was very kind to us and this really helped. We walked around the ruins and let our imagination run wild, imagining Kings and Queens, dragons and knights. The children used all of their learning about the features of the castle. If you are looking at these photographs with a grown up you could impress them by sharing your knowledge. Can you spot the moat? What about a rampart or an arrow slit ? Can you explain how these things helped to defend the castle? At the end of the afternoon we walked all the way around the outside of the castle, it was very muddy but helped us to see just how big the castle was. Year 2 was very well behaved and made all of the grown ups extremely proud of them. Thank you to everyone who gave up their own time to join us on the trip, we really appreciate it. Look out for more information about our new and exciting topic this term 'Towers,Tunnels and Turrets'.
  • Year 1 visit to the Space Dome

    Thu 30 Oct 2014

Today, the children in Year 1 visited the Star Dome. We learnt about lots of interesting things to do with space, including the star constellations that Ancient Greeks used to tell stories with. Can you remember the name of the brave warrior who fought a fierce lion for 3 whole days?

We also looked at some of the planets in our Solar System and thought about the Sun. Can you remember why the Sun, although a star, is much brighter than the other stars we can see at night?

The children had a fantastic time and did a great job representing Westfield Infant School, well done!

Final challenge: Can you remember the name of the Galaxy that we are a small part of? Once you have remembered, or found out using the internet or an adult, tell your teacher!

  • Reception Family Roast Dinner Day

    Thu 30 Oct 2014

It was lovely to see so many parents/carers and members of the extended family coming to have lunch with the Reception pupils today.

As you can see from the photographs some people had a long wait so thank you for your patience. We know from your comments that you thought your dinner was worth waiting for!

It was a great opportunity for the children to show you all how grown up they are. It was good that parents could see how independent the children are and what beautiful manners they have.

A big thank you to the Catering Staff who worked hard to prepare such a lovely meal for everyone to enjoy.

Please use Guest Book to let us know what you thought to your experience of joining your child for a school dinner!

    Mon 27 Oct 2014

This morning Glen, who works for Leicestershire Youth Offending Service and Delia, a Community Police Officer, came in to talk to us about staying safe around fireworks and at Halloween.

We all enjoyed listening to them and taking part in the quiz.  We all know now how to stay safe at this time of year.  Thank you!

  • Year 2 Curriculum Afternoon - Community Buildings

    Wed 15 Oct 2014
Year 2 had an amazing afternoon building their model communities. Lots of parents came to join us to create all the different features. We then put them on a huge floor map and they looked fantastic. The children also shared their work connected to our first new topic ' Street Detectives". You could design your own community at home with your grown up. What are the features of a good community? Is it important where you put the buildings? Remember to think about who is going to use the buildings and parking. Can you explain to your grown up how communities have changed over time? Do they know the difference between a physical and human feature? If not you could teach them! Have fun.
  • Year 1 Memory Box Open Afternoon

    Fri 10 Oct 2014

The children in Year 1 had invited their parents/carers to a special afternoon to showcase the exciting things they had been doing so far this term. Children shared their Wow Work folders and the fantastic Class Museums, packed with special items the children had been bringing in. Adults and children enjoyed a drink and biscuit outside on the patio, which the children had made the previous day.

It was a brilliant afternoon and we thank all parents/carers that were able to attend.

  • Class 10 Assembly - Fair Trade

    Fri 10 Oct 2014 .
What a fantastic assembly from Class 10. It was all about fair trade. The children told us how much each person got that is involved in growing and selling bananas. We found out that the supermarkets get the most money and that is not fair! We had a visit from a superhero Fantastic Fair trade Fred that reminded us to try to buy fair trade products and give the farmers a better deal. We ended with the whole school singing the fair trade song. Well done Class 10!
  • Family Learning Morning

    Mon 06 Oct 2014

On Saturday 4 October we had another fantastic Open Morning. The theme this year was recycling and staff had prepared a range of activities that included all the family.

It was great to see so many families at school and the children were obviously very excited to be showing their family members around school.

During the morning 125 children came and over 100 adults! Thank you to those people who completed the questionnaire and handed them in. We have now presented the prizes to the lucky winners.

As part of our evaluation we have sent out an Evaluation Form to those families who did not come so we can find out what we could do different to enable even more families to come. To encourage you to return your form we have some prizes to give out to 2 lucky families!
