  • Class 4 Assembly - The Great Fire of London

    Thu 30 Jan 2020

Today Class 4 did a fantastic assembly all about The Great Fire of London.

They started off with a quiz asking us if we knew who the famous historical figures were.  Can you remember who they were?

Next we heard all about when and how the Great Fire of London started.  Do you remember how it started?  Some children showed us how the fire spread because the buildings were made out of wood and they were built very close together.  The King decided to blow up some houses to try and make a fire break but unfortunately it didn't work.

Class 4 showed us how people used leather buckets filled with water from the Thames to put the fire out, but it wasn't very effective.

We then learnt how much damage the fire did to London and how it eventually went out.  Can you remember?

Class 4 finished with a song all about The Great Fire of London.

What a fantastic assembly Class 4!  Great acting, reading and singing.  Well done!

  • New Age Curling Competition

    Fri 24 Jan 2020

This morning we had the chance to compete in a curling competition. The children arrived at school full of excitement and ready to go. We had a chat about how competitions work and how we would try our best to win. We also discussed that being there and taking part was important and part of the learning process.

We split into three teams of four and competed against local schools. One of our teams finished 2nd! What an amazing experience and achievement, well done Westfield!

Please have a look through the photographs.  Watch out for updates from the Final.  Next stop Green Towers! Go Westfield!

  • Class 5 Assembly - Chinese New Year

    Thu 23 Jan 2020

Today Class 5 told us all about Chinese New Year.  We learnt how the Chinese New Year is celebrated on a different day to the New Year that we celebrate in the UK.  Can you remember why?  We also learnt about some of the traditions that people do before they celebrate Chinese New Year.  Houses are cleaned and bad spirits swept away, children are also given red envelopes - can you remember what was inside them?

Mr Harries introduced us to all the animals that make up such a big part of the New Year celebration and then told us the story of how they raced to be the first to reach the Emperor so that they could be his guard.  Can you remember who came first?

To finish off the assembly Class 5 sang a song all about the Chinese New Year.

Well done Class 5!  What a brilliant assembly!  You all spoke, sang and acted brilliantly!

Some of the children in Class 6 shared their New Years Resolutions with us.  They also let us know some of the staffs New Years Resolutions -  we hope everyone manages to keep them!
