  • Year 1 Moon Zoom

    Fri 27 Nov 2015

Year 1 pupils had a great time this afternoon sharing with their grown-ups all the exciting things they have learnt during this terms Moon Zoom topic.

Thank you to all the grown-ups who helped with the homework of creating an exciting alien spaceship out of junk.  All the fantastic spaceships were exhibited this afternoon.  Pupils also had the chance to share lots of information through non-fiction books and they completed activities on the iPads.

Thank you to everyone who attended.  If you were unable to make it this afternoon you are welcome to pop in any day after school to share your child's Wow Work folder.

  • Class 5 Assembly - Ready Steady Cook

    Fri 27 Nov 2015

Well done Class 5 on your Ready Steady Cook assembly. It was very informative about healthy food and you told us all the healthy ways to cook them.

You worked very hard making your own resources and deciding what our healthy and unhealthy meals were.  It looked like everyone enjoyed voting for the healthiest meal too! Well done red tomatoes with your healthy grilled chicken salad!

  • Year 2 Street Detectives

    Wed 25 Nov 2015

What a fabulous afternoon! Parents/Carers were invited into school to create a 3D community map with their children. Following our walk around Hinckley we identified different buildings and their purposes. We used this information to choose and make a model of a variety of houses and buildings. We then placed them on a huge 3D map in the hall and each class map looked amazing. Back in the classroom we had a quiz about human and physical features around our local area. Next time you are out and about with your child see if they can tell you any human and physical features (human – house, sign, traffic lights / physical – grass, trees). We would love it if you and your child could draw their route to school as a 2D map. Why not bring it into school to share with the rest of the class? Have you got a good way to remember North, East, South and West?

  • Class 6 & 7 assembly - where does our food come from?

    Fri 20 Nov 2015

A huge well done to Class 6 and 7 children for their fantastic assembly all about food! Children explained where our food comes from. They sang the song 'Old MacDonald' then explained which food products we get from each animal. They also explained that many of our foods come from plants.

Children explained the importance of buying food locally to reduce food miles which can be harmful to our environment. They thought about the packaging on food and showed three different informative food labels for the children to look out for when they go shopping: Red Tractor (for animal welfare), Organic (food produced without chemicals that harm our environment) and Fair Trade. The children explained that we do have to buy some food from other countries as we can't grow it in this country so we try to buy fair trade products. Fair trade products mean that farmers get paid fairly for the work they have done to produce the food. Finally the children sang their Fair trade song brilliantly.

Please look out for these three very important labels on packaging next time you go shopping!

  • Friendship Afternoon

    Wed 18 Nov 2015

As part of this year's national Anti-Bullying Week we ran a friendship afternoon at Westfield Infant School. The theme of this year's campaign is

    ‘Make a noise about bullying’.

Each class had children from a variety of Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 classes. This was a chance for different children to learn and play together for the afternoon. As well as discussing what bullying looks like (through the use of stories) and thinking about what can be done about it we had a big focus on friendship and being kind to others. Children enjoyed working and playing together to build a friendship wall with kind words, draw pictures of their new friends, make bracelets for their friends, decorate delicious biscuits to share with their friends and play turn taking games.

A fantastic afternoon was had by everyone including the grown ups and many new friendships have begun!

  • Blunderbus - The Sorcerer's Apprentice

    Tue 17 Nov 2015

Year 1 and 2 had the exciting opportunity to watch a Blunderbus production of 'The Sorcerer's Apprentice' this morning! It was thoroughly engaging and entertaining and enjoyed by all children and grown ups! Year 1 children invited their grown ups to complete magical activities with them in the classroom after the show. The children all made a potion, a spell on a wand and designed a witch or wizard. If any grown ups were not able to attend the production please ask your child what they enjoyed and you will find copies of the activities in their book bags to complete at home.

Reception children also enjoyed watching the exciting production in the afternoon and were joined by lots of their grown-ups.  After the production the grown-ups joined the children in the classrooms to make a wizards hat, to design a wizards cloak and found lots of rhyming words to put in our cauldrons!  All the children were very well behaved.

Parents/Carers - Please use the Guestbook to let us know your views on the performance.

  • Children in Need Assembly

    Fri 13 Nov 2015

Today we held a special Children In Need Assembly. Everyone was invited to wear Pudsey Bear Ears and to bring a special teddy or furry friend with them to assembly.

We found out about the Children In Need charity and what kind of things the money raised does to help children in this country.

The School Council collected all the buckets with our donations in and took them to the office for counting! It took Mrs Babic and Miss Hussey a long time to count all the money.

By the end of the day the money raised from the sale of the ears and the donations came to £484.00! This is another fantastic Westfield effort and will really help with the Children In Need 2015 Appeal.

  • Children in Need Disco

    Thu 12 Nov 2015

After school today a lot of children got changed into Disco clothes and Pudsey Bear ears for the WISA Children In Need Disco. Everyone had a drink and some biscuits before going into the hall ready for the Disco.

B.J. the D.J. soon got everyone dancing and joining in with all the games.

As you can see from the photographs everyone had a great time and the event raised £624.00 for WISA funds.

  • Blast Off! Play in a Day

    Wed 11 Nov 2015

In preparation for antibullying week 2015 Year 1 completed a 'One Day Creative' friendship workshop called Blast Off! In this space themed workshop pupils used drama to imagine that they had travelled to another planet. When they got there they met an alien, he was a sad alien. They could tell that he was sad even though he didn't speak English, his language didn't make any sense. How do you think the children knew he was sad? They managed to communicate with the alien and even cheer him up without speaking his language. How do you think they cheered him up? They helped other aliens settle arguments and talked about what to do if you are feeling angry. What do you think you would suggest to help the aliens calm down? Everyone was happy by the end of the mission and the crew flew back to Earth!

At the end of the day the whole school was invited to an assembly to watch 9 Year 1 performers act out the play for everyone to enjoy! Thank you to 'One Day Creative' as everyone had a very enjoyable day and a valuable learning experience.
