  • EYFS and Year 1 Attendance Assembly

    Fri 14 Jul 2017

During assembly this morning we celebrated 100% Attendance Awards for those pupils in Year 2. This afternoon we had the opportunity to celebrate 100% Attendance Awards for pupils in Year 1 and Reception classes.

As you can see from the photographs we had 8 pupils in Year 1 and 7 pupils in Reception who had been to school EVERY morning and EVERY afternoon which gave them 100% Attendance!

This is a great achievement, particularly in Reception year when pupils have to build up a resistance to all the germs that are in school.

Well done and keep going children. You could be one of the pupils who gets a special 100% Attendance prize for achieving 3 years of 100% Attendance!

  • Year 2 Leavers Assembly

    Fri 14 Jul 2017

This morning we held our assembly to say Goodbye to the Year 2 pupils. A lot of the children were wearing their Leavers T-Shirts and they looked very smart. The Year 2 pupils sang their favourite song and they also shared memories of their last 3 years at Westfield Infant School.

Awards were given to the Eco-Warriors, the School Council and the Year 2 pupils with 100% attendance at school this year. We also celebrated 2 pupils who have achieved 100% attendance in all 3 years they have been here! Unfortunately 1 pupil  only just missed this amazing achievement due to the 2 days she has had off ill this week. We felt she also deserved a special mention and a prize!

Thanks were given to WISA members who have worked so hard this year. Mrs MacLauchlan shared the news that the total raised during 2016/2017 is £7,131.20 which is a fantastic achievement. Many thanks to everyone who has supported WISA in anyway.

As well as the Year 2 pupils leaving today we also have some members of staff moving on. We said good bye to Miss Hardy who is also getting married this summer, Mrs Davis who has a new job and Mrs Dakin  who is having an unpaid sabbatical for the year. We celebrated in song and by presenting them with gifts.

Finally everyone sang One More Step and the year 2 pupils were led out of the hall with everyone clapping them on their way!

  • Kev and Dan - Family Summer Sing-a-Long

    Wed 12 Jul 2017

We were all looking forward to seeing Kev and Dan again! Westfield Infant School is a Singing School and we know that when we sing together it makes us feel happy. This afternoon was the perfect opportunity to invite family members in so they could join in and hear what good singers we are at Westfield Infant School.

Kev and Dan got everyone joining in with a selection of songs and we also did some signing and encouraged our visitors to learn some of the signs.

As you can see from the photographs everyone had a great time and also did some impressive singing. Thanks Kev and Dan! We love your visits and we are already looking forward to seeing you for the Christmas- Sing- a- Long in December!

  • Drumming Workshop

    Thu 06 Jul 2017
Some of the Year 1 children had a real treat on Thursday afternoon. We had a visit from a group of drummers. They were from India and the Phillippines. First they introduced themselves and told us a little bit about where they were from. Then they played the different drums they had brought with them, it was amazing! Next it was the children's turn. All the children had a beat box .They learnt a simple beat that got faster and faster, then slowed down, ending with a great big bang. They also played free style alongside the African drums, it was so loud but brilliant, we even had a dance. Thank you to Bev Chilolo (parent/governor) for organising it, I hope they can visit again in  the next academic year.

  • Mablethorpe Assembly

    Tue 04 Jul 2017

Today in assembly, Year 2 children shared their exciting experience of visiting Mablethorpe with parent/carers, Year 1 and EYFS children. Children recounted some of the many highlights from the two days at Mablethorpe, including the visit to the RNLI station and the treat of hot chocolate and a DVD before bedtime. We also heard about the excitement at the Wharf on Friday for Year 2 children who did not sleep at Mablethorpe. Everyone found it very funny when we found out that Mr Maksymiw had been capsized and ended up getting wetter than planned!

All of the Year 2 children received a Mablethorpe certificate and many of the children, who had been spotted by the adults during the two days, received special awards. Mrs MacLauchlan was so impressed with the behaviour and attitude of all children that a special 'sweet treat' was sent home tonight to say 'Well Done!'

Children, don't forget to leave your 'Mablethorpe Memories' on our website guestbook.

Another huge thank you for all adults involved in the preparation and support needed to make this year's Mablethorpe residential a success!

  • Food for Life Gold Award Celebrations!

    Mon 03 Jul 2017

Congratulations Westfield Infant School on achieving the Food For Life Gold Award! We were very excited today to be the first school in Leicestershire and one of only twenty in the country to receive this award.

We had a lovely celebration assembly followed by a surprise whole school picnic. During assembly we had lots of special visitors to help us celebrate. We sang healthy songs and looked at photographs of the wonderful things we have done to achieve this award. We remembered our farm trips, the work of the Eco Warriers, the SNAG, the cooking club, our class gardening plots, healthy school week and the huge achievements of the kitchen and lunch time staff which has allowed us to achieve the healthy, relaxed and enjoyable lunchtimes that pupils have every day.  Next we cut the golden celebration cake which was very exciting. A special thank you to Mrs Coleman for making this wonderful cake for us and for making 300 little cakes.

We were so lucky to have great weather to enjoy our picnic. Every child had a celebration cake and enjoyed chatting to their friends and listening to the music on the field.

Well done to all the staff, governors, parents/carers and most importantly the  pupils whose hard work has made this possible! This award is an achievement for the Westfield Infant School Community and we should all be very proud!
