  • Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II visits Westfield

    Fri 27 May 2022

Well, the union flag and bunting have been waving for two weeks outside Westfield Infant School (inside is adorned with bunting as well!) - and now we know the reason why...

Today we have had a Very Important Person visit us - Her Majesty The Queen! No wonder the flag was flying!

Having seen her from afar in our Whole School Assembly this morning, we got the chance to meet her in our classrooms throughout our very special Jubilee Celebration Day and took photos as evidence!

  • A Right Royal Jubilee Picnic and... a longer playtime with a difference!

    Fri 27 May 2022

Picnic blankets at the ready - we were all sat down on the field for 12 noon and SO excited for our Jubilee picnic lunch which we shared together as a Whole School!

We sat patiently as we waited for our personalised pre-ordered picnic lunch presented to us in a special Jubilee lunch box! Can you remember what you had in your lunch box - ham/cheese/tuna roll, satsuma/apple/banana, selection of salad sticks and raisins? We ate beautifully and remembered our lunchtime manners. For dessert we had a pot of ice-cream with the option of raspberry sauce or yoghurt/biscuit. What a wonderful lunch the kitchen staff had prepared for us. Huge thanks to them for making it very special for us - delicious! Thank you also to WISA for coming along to help.

Tonight your child has brought their Jubilee lunch box home with a special chocolate muffin and edible Jubilee cake topper inside. You will also find either a red, white or blue balloon in there too!

The Queen obviously didn't want to miss out because she visited us during our picnic! After our lunch we headed off to the playground for an extra long playtime - altogether! Thank you Mr Squires for letting us have the disco music on as - we had a ball! It was lovely to see everyone having fun, playing and dancing together in red, white and blue!

Thank you for making our Westfield Jubilee Celebrations so much fun!

We hope you enjoy any Jubilee Celebrations you attend over half term!

  • The Queen's Platinum Jubilee Assembly

    Fri 27 May 2022

It was a real delight being able to meet together this morning as a Whole School - dressed in red, white and blue, wearing the most ornate crowns and holding a union flag! Whatever was going on...?

TODAY was our Whole School Celebration Day to mark The Queen's Platinum Jubilee - AND we had a special visitor - Her Majesty The Queen!

We looked at a special flag with the dates 1952-2022 and talked about The Queen reigning for 70 years. This is a part of our living history and is unlikely to happen again in our lifetimes so we wanted to make the day special, and one to remember.

Mrs Leeson reminded us about all the activities and learning we have completed over the past few weeks in our classrooms. She quizzed us on our learning and checked our understanding of key vocabulary like Jubilee, Coronation, reign and line of succession. We told her that The Queen's full name is Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Windsor and that she resides mainly at Buckingham Palace in London. Her favourite animals include corgi dogs and horses. We looked a photograph of The Queen on the day of her Coronation and identified the Crown Jewels. We know that these are kept in The Tower of London!

We loved attending the Jubilee discos, decorating commemorative plates (we saw each other's on the screen as we came into the hall), painting and sketching The Queen, creating bunting in very creative ways, ordering a timeline of The Queen's 70 year reign, dressing up and enjoying Royal tea parties and writing letters to The Queen - to name but a few of our experiences.

Over the past few weeks we have had the opportunity to participate in competitions at home! Did you enter any of them?

Thank you to everyone who entered the Platinum Jubilee Family Quiz - you all received a special certificate. If you got all your answers correct your name was placed into a special year group box. Mr Squires had the honour of drawing our three winners who each won a Jubilee teddy bear, pencil and notepad. Congratulations!

The Platinum Jubilee Stamp Competition proved very popular and you all made it incredibly difficult for the teachers to choose one winning design per class. Well done for entering, everyone received a sticker and the winners were awarded with a Jubilee notepad and pencil. Well done!

To round up our Jubilee Assembly and to make The Queen's visit worth it - we sang The National Anthem (a few times!) using Makaton signs and then waving our flags. The Queen insisted on a Whole School photo so we obviously fulfilled her request!

Tonight, your child has come home with a special book all about Queen Elizabeth. This is for them to keep.

With Assembly over... we were looking forward to our Jubilee Picnic...

  • Commemorative Platinum Jubilee Plate Decorating

    Tue 24 May 2022

WOW! What a jubilant few days we have had so far this week! In classes we each got to visit the 'Creative Workshop Classroom' to decorate a special ceramic plate to commemorate The Queen's seventy year reign - her Platinum Jubilee! We talked about these plates being a keep-sake as this event is part of our living history.

We were amazing at listening to the tips Mrs Leeson gave us on how to use the brush to make dots and stripes and tried so hard to follow our designs, which we brought along to our session. We took our time and understood why we were using red, blue, gold and purple paint.

You'll be pleased to hear that all the plates are now dry and look phenomenal. Each one is unique. Once they are bubble-wrapped, they will be available for parents/carers to sign for upon collection and each year group will let you know when.

We hope you love them as much as the children loved decorating them.

  • EYFS Jubilee Disco

    Wed 18 May 2022

    Today’s the day… it’s Jubilee Disco time!!

After getting changed into our party clothes we were ready for our special drink of squash and a delicious chocolate biscuit! 🍪

We were ready for our disco!! With plenty of tunes to dance to and so many friends to dance with - we had a fantastic boogie.

We were delighted to play some dancing games which included musical statues and musical bumps! Wow! You were great at freezing when the music stopped. We even played walk on the mat which we LOVED! If we were on the mat when the music stopped, we were out.

Thank you so much for your support! We’ve had a wonderful Jubilee disco. 😀🤩

  • Year 2 Jubilee Disco

    Tue 17 May 2022

What fantastic moves the Year 2 children had at their Jubilee disco to kick off their celebrations!

All children enjoyed eating a special biscuit and putting on their best dance-proof clothes to party the afternoon away. We played games like musical statues, had a dance-off and even the teachers competed against each other!

Well done Year 2 children for showing brilliant behaviour throughout the disco.

  • Year 1 Jubilee Disco

    Mon 16 May 2022

WOW! What a fantastic time we have all had in Year 1 to kickstart our Jubilee celebrations!

The children put in maximum effort with their dance moves and competition skills and all the teachers had a fabulous time too!

Well done children, brilliant behaviour and attitude as well!

  • Pyjamarama Day at Westfield

    Fri 13 May 2022

Today we came to school dressed quite a bit differently to usual - in our pyjamas! Yes, that's right - today is Pyjamarama Day, organised by the BookTrust. You all looked absolutely fantastic, thank you for supporting this event and for your kind donations which will be forwarded to the BookTrust.

It was amazing to see so many parents/carers in school this morning as we had the opportunity to share a wealth of books together - poems, stories and non-fiction. What a great time we all had, thank you for coming.

We have been using today to talk about the importance of reading and sharing a bedtime story - what a great habit to start if we don't already do this. It is also a calming way to end a busy day. Some of us even had a bedtime story at school!
