    Fri 27 Feb 2015

Today in assembly we said goodbye to Mr Abbott!  We are very sad to see him go from the THREE jobs he does at Westfield Infant School.

The children presented him with a card and some lovely gifts, including of course, his very own Westfield Bear!

Finally we sang our Well Done song to him to wish him well in his new job!

  • School Council Bring and Buy Sale

    Fri 27 Feb 2015
Congratulations to members of the School Council who ran a very successful Bring and Buy Sale yesterday! They worked very hard to set up the sale and to sell items to pupils and adults. The Bring and Buy Sale raised a huge £370.35 for the charity UNICEF. Every year UNICEF has a different theme for their 'Day for Change' and this year the money raised will be going towards protecting children in emergencies. Many children across the world are caught in emergency situations and UNICEF support health and nutrition, education and child protection. Thank you for all of your support and the money raised will be going to a fantastic cause. Thank you also to the Co-operative Food on Trent Road. They generously donated lots of delicious cakes that we were able to sell at the sale which all helped towards the fantastic total we are able to donate UNICEF.

  • Thomas Workshop with the Choir

    Wed 25 Feb 2015

This afternoon the choir had a very special treat!  They had the afternoon in the hall with Jane and the Fat Controller, who took them on a journey to help the Fat Controller prepare for Thomas' birthday.

They went on a train and stopped of for a swim, to visit a farm and to make a xylophone in the woods.  They also learnt the song that they will be singing at the recording studio!

The Fat Controller also managed to visit some of the other children whilst he was here.

At the end of the journey the choir had some lovely birthday cake for Thomas.

    What a fantastic afternoon!

  • Healthy School Week - Day 5

    Fri 13 Feb 2015

Sadly, it was the last day of Healthy School Week today. Lots of adults and children enjoyed eating their last school breakfast together (for another year anyway!)  and reading in class together.

We joined together as a school to celebrate our Healthy School Week assembly. Each class made a fantastic contribution by explaining what they have been learning about and adding to our amazing display! Ask our child what their class contributed or what they liked learning about from the other classes.

As well as singing songs about exercise, looking after our teeth and our bodies we had a prize draw for a healthy hamper. Every time you came to breakfast this week you were entered into a draw to win a hamper. Congratulations to our five winners: Monday - Archie (Class 8), Tuesday - Jack (Class 5), Wednesday - Lacy (Class 2), Thursday - Cherry May (Class 1) and Friday - Harvey (Class 4).

Congratulations to our winner of our website competition. Faith (Class 5), Daniel (Class 2) and Rocco (Class 10) all spotted Brumas Bear on our VIRTUAL TOUR. Although the competition is over the virtual tour is still available on our website under the 'ABOUT US' menu, please have a look!

During the rest of the day children continued to learnt about being, healthy, clean and safe!

Thank you to everyone who helped to make Healthy School Week such a success. Have a happy and healthy half term break!

  • Healthy School Week - Day 4

    Thu 12 Feb 2015

Today has been extremely exciting! Fifteen lucky children from Westfield Infant School including members of the School Council and the School Nutrition Action Group had the opportunity to officially open the Cooperative Food on Trent Road. On arrival at the store we looked at lots of the produce including fruit, vegetables, meat, dairy products and even the chocolate. We thought about where each of the products comes from. If you didn’t go on the trip perhaps next time you visit a shop you could think about where the different produce comes from. We noticed that lots of the products at the Cooperative Food had Fair Trade labels. We were pleased to see this as we know that if we buy these products the farmers will get a fair payment for their work.

We had our photo taken doing the official opening of the store, we even got to cut the ribbon! We each got a balloon to take home and a goodie bag full of delicious food to share with our families.

Meanwhile at school the children had the chance to share breakfast and reading activities with their families. Some classes had their turn in the Life Education Centre today and all classes continued their learning about how to make healthy choices and live a healthy lifestyle. What can your child tell you about their learning today?

    Wed 11 Feb 2015
A huge thank you to everyone who completed the 'All About Food' questionnaire. Your opinions are greatly appreciated and valued. Congratulations to Logan Stone who was the winner of the family swimming session. I hope you enjoy your swim!
  • Healthy School Week - Day 3

    Wed 11 Feb 2015

Wow! We certainly had a busy breakfast time today! Thank you to all those families who enjoyed breakfast at school, we hope to see you all again tomorrow. Many more families enjoyed a reading session together in class this morning. The children are really enjoying sharing this time with their grown-ups and we hope to see you tomorrow if you’ve not been able to make it yet!

Pupils have continued to learn all about a healthy living in the Life Education Centre Thank you to all the adults took advantage of the opportunity to visit the Life Education Centre.

Each class continued to develop their knowledge about being clean, healthy and looking after their bodies. Ask your child what they learnt today!

  • Healthy School Week - Day 2

    Tue 10 Feb 2015

We have had another busy and exciting day at Westfield Infant School! Thank you to all the adults and children who joined us for a delicious healthy breakfast! Again many children enjoyed the opportunity to do reading activities in the classroom with their grown ups.

Today was Safer Internet Day! Pupils across the school learnt all about staying safe on the internet with Smartie the Penguin and with the characters from Hector's World. Key messages included what to do if you had a pop up on your computer and that you should never share your personal information on the internet. Ask your child to explain to you what they have learnt about personal information and when it is safe to share this information and when it is not. Please look out for information about E-Safety that you will be receiving on Friday.

The Life Education Centre arrived in our playground today. The children were very excited to meet Harrold the Giraffe who helped them to learn about living a healthy lifestyle. We know it's important to eat and drink healthily, to get lots of exercise and sleep and to try to make ourselves and others happy. We also met Tam the body! We learnt all about the organs in our body and the very important jobs they do. Please ask your child what they know about healthy living and parts of the body.

We were very lucky to try out a different type of exercise today! We had a yoga class where we exercised, stretched and relaxed. We really enjoyed the sessions and liked trying something new.

If you haven't been in the Life Education Centre yet you will have the chance to go in on Wednesday or Thursday this week and if you haven't had a yoga class yet, you will get the chance on Wednesday!

As well as all of these exciting activities all pupils continued to work hard in their classrooms learning all about how to live healthily.
