Some children from the Year 2 Eco-Warriors went to the Caterpillar site in Desford for the 6th annual Neovia Eco Awards. We presented to some other schools about what we did as Eco-Warriors at Westfield Infant School.
The children then got to see some Caterpillar machinery, complete a fire safety quiz and met Dave, a man who has lived in different rainforests.
Everyone behaved wonderfully and had a fantastic day out! The children also received a goodie bag of treats to take home.
Well done everyone! You have made both myself and Mrs Singleton very proud!
Wow ! It was class 4 and class 7's turn for a trip down to the Wharf and all the children were very excited.
The weather was perfect as was the children's behavior. Our day started off with a gentle walk down to the Wharf which we all enjoyed. When we got down there Mr Burrows told us all about the exciting and very interesting history of the building that surround the Wharf. He told us about the old prisons underneath the ground and how the bad people used to get taken a very long way away...all the way to Australia! Which had some off us thinking about Mrs England's trip to Australia. Surely Mrs England didn't go to Australia because she was naughty ?! Class 4 will have to investigate further.
Mr Maksymiw had split us into 3 groups. Each group had a chance to walk to the Marina and have a nosy round. We even went onto a real narrow boat! Another exciting activity was an alphabetical eye spy back at the Wharf, we all did very well at this. We also had a chance to do an observational drawing of a narrow boat.
Mr Burrows took groups out on one of his boats and they paddled up and down the canal discussing what they could see and learning more about the history and uses of canals.
All in all a fantastic day was had by all. A big well done to class 4 and class 7 for their super behavior and a very big thank you to all the adults that were involved.
Please take a look through our pictures!
Everyone looked very different this morning as it was a non-uniform day! In return for the treat of not wearing school uniform we asked everyone to bring a bottle for the Bottle Stall at the Summer Fayre next Friday 20 June!
The good news is that everyone behaved very well and remembered the Golden Rules even without the reminder of wearing a school uniform.
Please keep helping us to get ready for the Summer Fayre! We need the following items:
small packets of sweets
items to decorate cakes
small plain cakes that can be decorated
more bottles!
exciting prizes worth more than £5.00 - vouchers, bottles and unwanted gifts
Also please keep selling the raffle tickets!
Thank you for your support.
What a great day some of the Year 2 children had today at Burbage Common with their Fathers/Male Carers.
As you can see from the photographs there were lots of different activities to do and everyone behaved beautifully.
When we first arrived Steve Burrows gave a safety talk and explained we would be building shelters. We were split into 3 groups and given the same amount of resources each. As you can see all the shelters turned out very differently. Throughout the day each group got to experience pond dipping with Mrs Ratcliffe, team games with Ernest and orienteering with Steve Burrows. At lunch time Steve made a fire on which we popped popcorn, boiled nettle tea and toasted marshmallows! It was super!
The effort and energy put into each activity by both parents/carers and children was great and really made the day one to remember. A big thank you to Steve Burrows, Mrs Ratcliffe and Ernest for planning and delivering such a fun filled day for all.
What a fantastic morning!
After a worryingly wet start to the day it started to dry up and all the Westfield Infant School team joined in to set up the field for Sports Morning. All the children arrived at school very excited and raring to go and the atmosphere in the classrooms was great. Once the children stepped outside to take their seats trackside they saw all the parents and carers that has come along to show their support and this made it all the more special.
Well done to all the children for trying so hard and having such great sporting attitudes, you were brilliant!
Thank you parents and carers for coming along and showing your support, it made the event extra special for the children.
