  • Goodbyes

    Thu 21 Dec 2023

Today we said goodbye to Miss Tunnicliffe and Mrs Proctor.

Miss Tunnicliffe has been given a wonderful opportunity to travel around Australia on a cruise ship supporting families and their children. We wish her lots of luck and look forward to hearing about her adventures.

Mrs Proctor is leaving for a short while to have her new baby. We are looking forward to meeting new baby Proctor and hope Mrs Proctor gets in lots of rest before her new baby is born.

  • Christmas Dinner

    Fri 15 Dec 2023

The best meal of the year has arrived!!

What a lovely lunchtime we have had today to celebrate Christmas. A delicious meal cooked by our wonderful kitchen staff who have worked so hard to feed everyone. Can you remember what vegetables were on your plate?

We also listened to some very festive music as we ate our lunch.

A big thank you for our lunch today!

  • Group 1 Recorder Assembly

    Wed 29 Nov 2023

What a wonderful performance from the first Recorder Group!

After just over 10 weeks of learning these children can now read music and play an instrument.

We were taught the notes a, b and g and watched an amazing performance including B B Blues and Hot Cross Buns.

Well done to the recorder group for your exceptional resilience to perform in front of a large group of people; you should be so proud of yourselves.

Thank you to all of the adults for joining us to watch the performance.

  • Odd socks day and Friendship afternoon

    Mon 13 Nov 2023

This week is Anti-Bullying Week 2023 and has the theme ‘Make A Noise About Bullying’.

A message from the Anti-Bullying Alliance:

Too often, we are silent when we see bullying take place, silent about the hurt bullying causes, and silent when we hear bullying dismissed as ‘just banter’. It doesn’t have to be this way. Of course, we won’t like everyone and we don’t always agree, but we can choose respect and unity.

This Anti-Bullying Week we will come together to have discussions about what bullying means to us, how banter can turn into something more hurtful, and what we can do to stop bullying. Together, we can make a difference and take a stand against bullying.

During this week children will be discussing what bullying is:

A hurtful behaviour (physically or verbally) which causes physical or emotional harm which is repeated on several occasions.

Our message is clear: SAY NO TO BULLYING and CHOOSE KINDNESS

    We encourage the children to:

    • Say no

    • Walk away

    • Tell an adult

    • Be kind and friendly

    • Be thoughtful

Today we celebrated Odd Socks Day and the children took part in a Friendship afternoon to celebrate.

    What is Odd Socks Day?

The Anti-Bullying Alliance and Andy and the Odd Socks started Odd Socks Day in 2017 to create a new and fun way of celebrating Anti-Bullying Week and what makes us all unique. Odd Socks Day is an opportunity to have fun, be yourself and spread awareness of the core values Anti-Bullying Week promotes. We were spreading the message of acceptance, understanding and respect.

This year’s theme for Anti Bullying Week is ‘Make A Noise About Bullying’. We want to spread a positive message that if we all come together, celebrate our difference, and stick up for each other, we can bring an end to bullying!

Most importantly, Odd Socks Day is designed to be fun! It’s an opportunity for children to express themselves and celebrate their uniqueness.

We enjoyed friendship afternoon where we put in to practice our skills of FRIENDSHIP and KINDNESS The children enjoyed playing with different children during the afternoon where they built on existing relationships and created new ones. We are proud of the great attitude and kindness shown by the children at Westfield Infant School.

  • Harvest 2023

    Fri 29 Sep 2023

This week throughout all of our assemblies we have been talking about harvest. Today was the assembly that Dave Roberts from Westfield Community Centre visited to receive a donation of food from our school.

Year 1 and 2 sang a lovely song about autumn leaves and the children in EYFS read a fantastic poem about autumn. Can you retell your song/poem to your adults at home?

Mr Roberts announced the winners from the Harvest raffle and they collected their prizes.

Thank you to everyone at Westfield Infant School who has been so generous in their donations; it is greatly appreciated.

  • End of Year Assembly - Goodbye and Happy Retirement

    Thu 13 Jul 2023

This morning the whole school met together for our final assembly of the academic year. Mr Squires welcomed us and then Mrs Chuter took over...

She explained that this time of year always brings mixed emotions especially when we say 'Goodbye' to people. This week we have seen the Year 2 Leavers' assembly to wish them all the very best as they look forward to starting their new junior schools. How exciting! Today we say 'Goodbye' to two members of staff...

Mrs Farrell has been with us for the year and has been based in Class 3 in EYFS. She has been a fantastic and enthusiastic asset to the team, supporting our pupils with SEND as well as leading social and communication groups in EYFS. She is leaving to take up a new job role. We presented her with a Westfield Bear and gift. Thank you Mrs Farrell for your hard work, we will miss you!

We also said 'Goodbye' and 'Happy Retirement' to Mr Squires today! The children were reminded that he no longer needs to set his alarm clock - he can have as many lie-ins as he wants now! Mr Squires has been part of the Westfield family for 8 years in total. He joined the team as a teacher many, many years ago for three years and after another job role he then returned five years ago. Mr Squires has been our Headteacher for the past four years and has lead the school through one of the most challenging times for our country - a global pandemic. We thank him for steering our school through Lockdown and his dedication to our school over the years. Thank you also for the tea parties on Friday afternoons!

We presented Mr Squires with a traditional Westfield card, a much-loved Westfield Bear and a little gift for him to enjoy! To our surprise he presented us with some gifts; a gigantic Connect4 for us to enjoy at lunchtime and for the staff... a new toaster and toastie maker! The children did a brilliant job of surprising him with a song to the tune of our 'Well done' song! Thank you from all of us, we wish you a very happy and long retirement.

Mr Squires had one last job to do before we left - the Year 1 and Year 2 best class attendance for the whole year. The winning classes were Class 5 and Class 10. Congratulations! Maybe it will be your class next year!

Finally, we want to say a big 'thank you' to all our children and Westfield families for your continued support over the past year. We hope you have a super Summer break and we will see our new Year 1 and Year 2 children on Tuesday 29th August at 8:45am when we all look forward to welcoming Mrs Ruane as our new Headteacher.

  • Year 2 Sports Day

Today was the eagerly awaited Sports Day for the Year 2's. The children were able to showcase all of the skills which they have learnt over their time at Westfield Infant School.

The children were wonderfully behaved and showed brilliant teamwork throughout the events. Well done!

Finally we'd like to say thank you to Ben for giving us the confidence to succeed.

  • Westfield Summer Fayre 2023

    Fri 30 Jun 2023

It's that time of year again - it's time for our Summer Fayre! The weather was a little drizzly but that never dampened the fun as Westfield families past and present came to support us!

The playground was packed with plenty of stalls, showcasing exciting books, leafy plants, delicious cakes, beautiful jewellery, decorative tattoos and pocket-money toys! Fun challenges including Hook-a-duck and raffle lucky-dips for the infamous Bottle stall and Tombolo often saw queues!

Inside the main hall, a constant stream of children enjoyed a Summer Fayre favourite - the Bouncy Castle, while many took the opportunity for a well-earned rest, taking advantage of the refreshments served.

A huge 'THANK YOU' for your donations and support. We really appreciate you coming. Thank you to WISA for organising this fabulous event.
