  • Leavers Assembly 2016

    Fri 15 Jul 2016

What a fantastic assembly for those pupils and adults we were saying goodbye to. The hall was packed with pupils, parents/carers, friends and other family members.

Year 2 pupils proudly walked down the aisle to stand in prime position for their last ever assembly at Westfield Infant School! Mrs MacLauchlan welcomed all who had attended and introduced a favourite song of ours to ensure the sun stays out for our Summer – Happy Sun High. Memories were then recounted by representatives of Year 2 pupils which provided a snippet of their ‘fun, amazing and awesome time at the best place you could learn’ over their three years; some were very humourous!

It is a tradition for Year 2 pupils to sing a Goodbye Song each year and pupils loved singing their rendition of the Frog Song. The choir treated us to a Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious before the whole school community joined in for a second time. Miss Hussey was particularly thankful that everyone sang to a steady beat as pupils can sometimes let this song run away from them!

Yesterday marked the day for our Attendance Awards but Mrs MacLauchlan let us into a secret that she’d still got the 100% Attendance medals ready for today’s assembly. What an amazing achievement to have come to school every day for a whole year! Approximately 50 pupils had achieved this this year, well done! Three special awards were received by three pupils in Year 2 in recognition of their 100% attendance in EYFS, Year 1 AND Year 2; a phenomenal accomplishment. They were treated to a family cinema pass – remember to let us know what you watched over the Summer – tell us on the guestbook!

Mrs Davis presented Year 2 pupils from the School Council with a special certificate, notebook and pen for their dedication to their important role and responsibility over the year. Miss Hamilton and Mrs Singleton presented the team of Eco-Warriors with a special certificate and packet of seeds to thank pupils for caring for their environment.

The adults leaving this year were Mrs Hutchins, Mrs Chinnock and Mrs Smith. Mrs Hutchins is a lunchtime supervisor and has worked at Westfield for approximately 9 years. Mrs Chinnock has worked at Westfield for many years in different roles including Secretary and Clerk to the Governors. Mrs Smith started at Westfield before Mrs MacLauchlan even arrived and has been a lunchtime supervisor, Secretary, LSA, Governor and Chair of Governors! We thank you all for being such dedicated and supportive members of Westfield Infant School. Mrs Hutchins, Mrs Chinnock and Mrs Smith were each presented with beautiful flowers, a much-sought after Westfield Bear and a whole school card after being wowed by their surprise leaving song!

Everyone sang the final song together – One More Step, before Mrs MacLauchlan shared a special message as they leave Westfield Infant School:

Of colour and race – you had no choice

In selecting your parents – you had no voice

But the road you take as you go along

The choices you make between right and wrong

The words you speak, the deeds you do

Are decided by nobody else but YOU.

The Year 2 pupils had a great time at the after school Leavers Disco Party. They had plenty of room in the hall and had fun dancing and playing games.

The Conga included a trip down the corridor to the library and back and three lucky winners won a book in the Pass the Parcel.

The party ended with the surprise treat of a Choc Ice enjoyed by the children and the adults! Thank you for being so sensible year 2 even when you were feeling very excited.

  • Visitors from Ashfield

    Wed 13 Jul 2016

The whole school thoroughly enjoyed an afternoon 'Sing Song' with visitors from Ashfield School.

Dan and Kev were very entertaining and encouraged us to join in with a variety of songs!

We got in the mood by singing a Westfield favourite ' Summer Holiday' before some traditional fun songs including Old Macdonald, Sing a Rainbow, I am the music man and Down in the jungle'. We interacted with signing and dance moves, and some children and adults had the opportunity to sing the front with Dan!

We clapped along with pop classics 'Walking on Sunshine' sang loudly to 'We Will Rock you! before leaving the hall with a smile on our face and a spring in our step!

A big Thankyou to Dan and Kev, we hope you come back again soon!

  • Sports Morning

    Mon 11 Jul 2016

What a great morning - thankfully the rain stayed away!

We began our Sports Morning with our EYFS pupils - all the children took part in either running or obstacle races being cheered on by family and friends.

They were followed by Year 1 races that included running, skipping, quoit races, and finally the Year 2 children took part in running, skipping, quoit and sack races!

To end our sports morning we all enjoyed watching the toddlers compete in a running race and the parents/carers getting into the spirit of the obstacle course!

Everyone who took part competed with smiles and enthusiasm and some pupils were rewarded for their sportsmanship back in their classes.

A big thank you to all the family and friends that came to support our event and cheer on the children.

  • Strawberries and Song

    Sat 09 Jul 2016

Members of the choir represented Westfield Infant School at a special service on Saturday evening held at the United Reformed Church in Hinckley.

The children sang really well and they also enjoyed listening to an adult choir called The Accord Singers and David Crick  who played the organ.

Before and during the service the congregation were able to look at photographs of the Year 2 trip to Mablethorpe.

A bucket collection at the end of the service raised £172.00. This will be divided between Leicester Children's Holiday Centre in Mablethorpe and a Church in Madagascar.

Well done to  everyone involved and thank you to parents/carers for supporting this event.

  • Road to Rio

    Fri 08 Jul 2016

    Road to Rio!

A super day had by all to commemorate the Olympics to be held in Rio this summer. Our day started with an opening ceremony to introduce each of the six chosen countries for Year 1 and 2 pupils. The whole school listened to National anthems for Australia, Mexico, Spain, Russia, USA and Greece whilst their flags were displayed. We were then told some interesting facts about each country. Can you remember any of them for your country?

Throughout the day each class in Year 1 and 2 were taught a creative dance to represent each of their class focus countries. Pupils have loved learning about Rio and their focus country and learnt about culture, food, climate, landmarks, animals alongside their dancing and many, many more aspects.

The day ended with our Olympic closing ceremony whereby each class showcased their dance to the whole school.

Look out for the ultimate Olympic Games Quiz coming home next week as part of your exciting homework challenges over the Summer!

  • Summer Fayre

    Fri 01 Jul 2016

It was a disappointment that due to the rainy weather the Westfield Summer Fayre had to take place indoors at the two schools but the Westfield community did not let us down! Thank you to everyone who supported the event by donating items, helping to prepare for the Fayre or by attending and spending your money!

Despite the weather everyone had a good time and the total raised for the Infant School was an amazing £1753.00. This money will be spent on resources that all the children at Westfield Infant School will benefit from.
