  • Year 2 Tamworth Castle Trip

    Thu 25 Oct 2018

This week, the Year 2 children visited Tamworth Castle to support and extend their learning about our new topic 'Castles'. The children met the strict, well-dressed Lord and Lady of the castle and were able to help the servant, Lucy, lay the table with plates, spoons and candlesticks for the Lord and Lady's meal.

Can you remember the metal that was used to make the plates?

What were some of the differences between the rich and poor peoples plates and cutlery?

The Lord and Lady were very surprised with some of the clothing the children (and the adults) were wearing so with some help, they were able to show us what appropriate clothing for girls and boys was like in the past.

The children then had to opportunity to see a knight's metal armour and put it together. Some children got to try on the knights helmet and found out it was very heavy! Then we all took part in knight training. How loud it was!

Why was shouting loudly in battle so important?

After a picnic lunch, a tour completed our trip to the castle. We explored many of the rooms throughout the castle and even sneaked a view from the top of the tower. Careful 'watchman' looking was essential to ensure no enemy was trying to invade Tamworth!

Can you remember the name of the room that we might call a 'bedroom' today?

The children had a fantastic time applying their learning and picking up so many new and interesting facts about castles from the past. Superb behaviour too!

Back at school, Year 2 children learned about dragons, using art and D&T skills and learnt a poem to recite.

What was the name of the patron saint who bravely slayed a fierce, angry dragon?

What an exciting few days we have had! Well done children.

  • Multi-Sports Parent/Carer Session

    Fri 12 Oct 2018

It was very nice to see so many parents/carers turn up to join in with the Multi-Sports fun today. The children have learnt lots of different skills such as: Hand eye co-ordination; balance; speed and agility. The children have been able to use these skills during fun and active games.  They have even had the chance to create their own games!

It was a fantastic chance for the children to be able to showcase all that they have learnt during the past few weeks and play games such as base dodgeball with their adults.

Please take a look at the photos below.

  • Thank you to Mrs Deeming

    Fri 12 Oct 2018

For many years Mrs Annette Deeming (fondly known to us as Nettie) has been a fantastic supporter of WISA. For 13 years she was WISA Chairperson and has worked very hard not only to raise funds but also she has helped in many other ways around school.

Today we were hoping that Annette would join us for assembly but unfortunately she hurt her ankle  and was unable to come. However we had two children ready to present her with flowers, a  card and a very special Westfield Bear. We also sent a big box of treats for her family to share because they have also been great WISA supporters.

We have sent the gifts home to Annette but we all want her to know how grateful we are for all the time and effort she has put in over many years of involvement in the school.

Thank you so much Annette. We will miss you but we know that you are very busy helping great nieces and other family members!

  • Boundary Farm Visit

    Wed 10 Oct 2018

This afternoon 8 children from year 1 and 2 had a fantastic visit to Boundary Farm. We were so lucky with the gorgeous weather and all the children learned so much from listening to Farmer Richard and Farmer Rachael.

We visited each of the animals as well as the fields of crops. Boundary farm is a dairy farm and has lots of cows. We saw the calves and learnt that they drink milk and eat nuts, cereal and hay. Fully grown cows eat 40kg of food everyday (which is the weight of at least 2 children!)

We picked the corn from the field and fed it to the chickens. They really loved it and all fought to get to the food! We also collected the eggs from the hen house. Bailey showed such a flair for this he was even offered a job!

Next we visited the milking parlour. We'll tell you all about how the farmers collect milk from the cows in our assesmbly after half term.

As the farmers are so kind and generous they gave the children a huge carton of fresh eggs from the chickens, bread that is made from wheat, butter and mayonaise to bring back to school. Can you find out what farm animal products are used to make butter and mayonaise? Year 1 pupils are having a class cook tomorrow and are going to use these ingredients to make egg sandwiches!

As all of the children was so well behaved and showed great curiosity the farmers have agreed for us to visit again in the winter time.

  • Year 2 Model Houses

    Mon 08 Oct 2018
This afternoon, Mrs MacLauchlan came to Year 2 and looked at some of the model houses the children had made as part of their Street Detectives homework. They were amazing and you could tell a lot of effort had been put into them. Everyone was very interested in hearing what models everyone had made and Mrs MacLauchlan gave out some of her special stickers. Well done to everyone who made such fantastic models and thank you to all parent/carers for supporting your childs learning at home.

  • Year 1 and 2 Little Blue Monster Theatre Company performance of Pearl and the Pirates

    Tue 02 Oct 2018

Year 1 and 2 had the exciting opportunity to watch the 'Little Blue Monster' Theatre company production of 'Pearl the Pirate and the Little Blue Monster' this morning. It was a fantastic performance which engaged and entertained the whole audience, children and adults.

In the story Pearl the pirate went fishing in the sea and caught a monster egg! Pearl did not know where it had come from but the more the monster ate, the bigger it grew!

Can you remember what the monster was called?

What did the monster like to eat?

A nasty Captain wanted the monster and tried to catch him.

Can you remember what the Captain's real name was?

Pearl decided to take the monster back to his home, Skull Island. How did they get there?

Year 2 children had the opportunity to ask questions after the show about the performance, characters, puppets and the 'Little Blue Theatre' Company actors. Some children even got to control the puppets and try on some of the costumes. The children thought of some interesting questions.

Thank you to all the adults who were able to join us for the performance and laugh along with the children.
