    Good Morning Everyone

I have travelled in this morning and the main roads are clear. I have spoken to Mrs Greig and Westfield Junior School is also going to be OPEN today.

Children should come to school today even if they arrive late. We will not give Late Marks to any pupil today.

Look forward to seeing you all later!

  • Year 1 and Year 2 Chinese Dancing Workshop

    Thu 29 Jan 2015

Wow!  What an amazing opportunity we had today with Katherine.

She taught us all about why Chinese people celebrate Chinese New Year and showed us lots of exciting and vibrant artefacts such as: a beautiful parasol, a delicate fan and best of all the most fantastic, colourful lion and dragon headdresses!

Katherine explained that this year is the year of the goat/sheep and she explained why there isn't a year named after the cat.  Can you tell your adult?

We listened to some gentle Chinese music and learnt how to do a traditional Chinese dance.  Year 1 learned a Lion and Dragon dance and Year 2 performed a Peacock dance.

Every child enjoyed themselves and were eager to continue their learning with Chinese New Year follow up activities in their own classrooms.

  • Police visit to Year 1

    Mon 26 Jan 2015

Last week Year 1 met a Policeman called Mr Johnson. He came in and talked to the children about his job and what he does to help people. Mr Johnson brought in some of things he uses for his job – a pair of handcuffs, a hat, a truncheon and his special Police badge. Mr Johnson also brought in some photos of his Police motorbike that he uses to travel to different places where people need help.

The children found it very interesting to hear all about Mr Johnson’s job and what it is like to be a real-life hero.

The children had the opportunity to try on Mr Johnson’s Police hat.

  • Visit from Ross, Beaver Scout Leader

    Fri 23 Jan 2015

Today Ross came to assembly and told us all about what is like to be a Beaver Scout.

He talked to us about how he is a leader at Beaver Scouts, but that the Beavers don't call him Ross, they call him Baloo.  All Beaver Scout leaders are named after characters from The Jungle Book.

He then showed us some photos of all the great things Beaver Scouts get up to.

  • Class 7 Book Sharing Afternoon with Parents/Carers

    Mon 19 Jan 2015
Everyone had a good time sharing books and talking about stories in Class 7. Catherine, from Hinckley Library, came to read us a story. Look what fun sharing books can be!
  • India Assembly

    Fri 09 Jan 2015

Today during our assembly we were joined by Mr Phil Nevett. He was delighted to receive a cheque for £738.00 from the School Council. This money was raised as a result of the Christmas Plays and will start a fund with the Nevett Fund to improve the surface of the playground at St.Mathias Primary School in Pondicherry.

We also saw photographs and clips of the trip to Pondicherry that Mrs Guest and Miss Hamilton made just before Christmas. It was very exciting to see Kira and Cole again and we were pleased to see the displays that Mrs Guest and Miss Hamilton did which have improved the classrooms at St Mathias Primary School.

It was also fantastic to see Mrs Guest and Miss Hamilton presenting the two laptops to St Mathias Primary School and training the staff so that they can use them in their teaching. A huge thank you to Education City for the training they provided to Mrs Guest and Miss Hamilton before they left for India and for donating the equipment and the subscription.

We could also see from the photographs that Brumas Bear enjoyed his second trip to Pondicherry and met a lot of new friends!

We are hoping that later in the year Sister Rose and a teacher from the Primary School will be able to make a return visit to Westfield Infant School.

Finally Mrs Guest and Miss Hamilton had a big surprise for Mrs MacLauchlan, Mrs Leeson, Mrs Fox and Mr Nevett because Sister Rose had given them some presents to bring back and give out! It was like Christmas all over again as they opened some very exciting parcels! Thank You Sister Rose and we hope to see you soon!

  • WISA New Year Disco

    Thu 08 Jan 2015

Well done to all the children who came to the WISA Disco on Thursday. B.J. was very impressed with your behaviour and so was Mrs MacLauchlan!

It was great to see everyone having fun and being so pleased to be back at school having fun with their friends. A lot of the children also enjoyed changing into their party clothes and special outfits for the Disco. What a lot of happy faces we saw as the children came into the hall.

Thank you to members of WISA and the support staff who helped to prepare for the Disco and assisted with the supervision during the event.

A great time was had by all as well as funds being raised for WISA.
