  • Attendance Award Assembly

    Fri 28 Apr 2017

This morning in assembly the Attendance Awards were given out for the second half of the Spring Term. During the whole of the Spring Term attendance dipped mainly due to chicken-pox that spread around the school.

Children received an award for their first half term of 100% attendance, second half term of 100% attendance, third half term or those who are still in the running for 100%  attendance at the end of the school year received their fourth award!

Well done to all the children who received an award today. A special well done to Class 9 who once again achieved the best attendance of all the classes.

  • Our third trip to Boundary Farm

    Wed 26 Apr 2017

Today 8 children from Years 1 and 2 accompanied Mrs Davis, Mrs Chilolo  and Mr and Mrs Smith on another trip to Boundary Farm in Sapcote.

The farmers, Richard and Rachel, walked us around the farm and showed the children the cows, sheep and chickens.

The children enjoyed feeding the chickens and even got to bring some eggs back to school.

Next week, in assembly, the children will help Mrs Davis to tell the whole school what they have learnt.

Thanks again to Richard and Rachel for giving up their time to show the children around.  We all had a great time and learnt lots of new things!

  • Leicester Tigers Trip

    Tue 04 Apr 2017

Today we went to visit a world famous rugby stadium!

It was a fun action packed day, filled with energetic activities and lots of learning.

The afternoon began with a fun lunch inside Leicester Tigers Rugby Stadium. Followed by a tour of the stadium. We sat in some new and old seats and had a feel for what it would be like to watch a real rugby match. Next we went and sat in the changing room and imagined what it would be like to be a rugby player on a match day.

After that, we had a lesson on the different healthy foods which a rugby player would eat on a daily basis. We attempted to make a healthy balanced dinner for a rugby player!

Finally we had a chance to play a range of different rugby games. The games focused on speed, agility, hand-eye co-ordination and balance, some of the attributes you need to play rugby.

Can you remember what food groups contribute to a balanced diet?

  • Autism Awareness Day

    Mon 03 Apr 2017

Today at Westfield Infant School we celebrated World Autism Awareness Day. During assembly this morning we had some visitors who came to explain what it means to be Autistic. This means they see the world in a different way to most of us.

They explained that they all share a house together and help each other. They told us about the jobs they have, the hobbies they have and what they remember about when they were at school.

The main theme for the assembly and the day was that 'It is O.K. to be different'

Some of the staff told us about the different hobbies they have and the different music they enjoy. We all respect these differences because 'It is O.K. to be different'.

At lunchtime we all had a special picnic lunch. We sat in classes with the grown ups sitting with us. This was a chance to find things out about each other that we did not know before. We were very lucky to have such a lovely sunny morning for our whole school picnic. A big thank you to the Catering Staff who even made some cakes with an Autism Awareness flag on!

At the end of the school day we had a Disco organised by WISA. This was another opportunity to celebrate how different we all are. We could bring special clothes to wear of our own choice. Look for the photographs of the Disco to see how different we all looked!
