    Fri 24 May 2019

This afternoon, the multi-sports children were able to demonstrate all of the skills which they have learned over the past few weeks. Parents and carers were invited to see all of these fantastic skills.

Problem solving, invasion and hand-eye co-ordination were just a few of the amazing skills which the children were able to perform in front of their adults.

A massive thank you to Ben for teaching the children these wonderful new skills.

Thank you to all of the parents/carers who came to participate and support the children.

Finally, well done to all of the children for a fantastic session!

  • Grandparents Afternoon EYFS

    Fri 24 May 2019

What a fabulous start to the afternoon and end to a very short term! EYFS pupils in classes 1, 2, 3 and 7 welcomed their grandparents into school and shared with them the exciting activities they do. The children shared their learning about Julia Donaldson stories and their Stick Man trip to Beaumanor Hall in their year group assembly. Pupils shared their favourite stories and sang songs. They also shared some work which included how they have used their Stickman in maths to to measure and compare the height and weight of them. Every child has written a recount about their experiences on the trip and one of these was shared. Some children also held up paintings of their own family trees. The grandparents obviously loved the assembly as they spontaneously clapped and smiled throughout!

The children then had the opportunity to showcase their school and play with their grandparents in the trim trail, sensory trail, thinking garden, playground, back patio and even classrooms. What a delight it was to see the fun that everyone was having especially on such a beautiful summery day! Thank you for supporting us!

  • Class 4 Botanic Gardens Trip

    Thu 23 May 2019

It was a brilliant day at Botanical Gardens. Once again the sun was shining which made the trip even more enjoyable.

The day started with Jade giving us a tour of the grounds and showing us some of the amazing trees and plants. Can you remember the name of the tallest tree?

The children had great fun learning about plants and ingredients from around the world and had opportunities to flex their geographical knowledge. We learnt about and saw plants from Spain, Egypt, America, Jamaica and the United Kingdom. We then discussed what these plants can be used for and how they are so valuable to us.

Can you remember where the Cherry tree grows?

Can you think about the journey a banana goes on to arrive in the UK?

Can you remember the tree which tricked monkeys?

What plant has sharp spikes to stop it from being eaten?

Discuss with your grown ups at home what plants you saw today that you really liked and see if you have anything familiar in your own garden...

During our day at the Botanic Gardens we collected 11 special ingredients as we explored the grounds. We then used these ingredients to create a rather tasty cake. The children enjoyed an outdoor lunch and playtime in the astonishing grounds. Not many people can say they had their lunch with a 200 year old Red Wood today!

Please take a look through our pictures and see the fun we had. The children were all incredibly well behaved and enjoyed every minute of the day, so well done children.

  • Stickman Assembly

    Thu 23 May 2019

Today Classes 1,2,3 and 7 treated us to an assembly all about Stick Man.

This term classes 1,2,3 and 7 have been learning about Julia Donaldson stories.  We learnt how Julia Donaldson is an author and her books are illustrated by Axel Sheffler.  Some children told us what their favourite Julia Donaldson books are.

They sang two songs in the assembly.  Where is Stick Man?  and a song all about the different things Stick Man becomes in the story.  The singing was excellent!

Some children showed us their family trees and told us who was in their families.

Stick Man was not all about the story in Class 3 and they showed us how they had used their stick men to measure height and weight and compare them.  Well done!

Finally Mrs Wood told us all about the amazing writing everyone did after they came back from the Stick Man Trip.  We heard one recount of the trip and then some children told us all about their favourite parts. (Climbing trees sounds so much fun!).

Thank you Reception for a fantastic assembly.  If you didn't manage to attend the assembly, you can see it here!

  • Making Story Time fun with your child!

    Thu 16 May 2019

This afternoon and evening, parents and carers were invited into school to watch an exciting and funny short DVD from Neil Griffiths. The DVD explained the importance of reading to your child and the positive impact this can have. Neil explained how NOT to read your child and then the correct way to read to your child. He gave some good ideas on how to make it a fun and memorable experience.

Parents/carers then got the chance to try out some of the tips Neil gave and shared some story sacks with their children.

Due to copyright restrictions we are unable to share this DVD on our website, however we will be purchasing some more which will be available at Reception soon, so keep a look out!

Here is a short YouTube clip from Neil Griffiths sharing some Top Tips for reading to children.

  • Reception Stick Man Trip

    Wed 15 May 2019

What a fantastic day we all had at Stick Man! Class 1 and some of the children from Class 2 and Class 7 went on Tuesday and the rest of the children from Class 2 and Class 7 joined Class 3 on Wednesday. The children were extremely well behaved and were a credit to the school.

We had beautiful weather on both days!

We went on the woodland walk, had a chance to see faces on the trees and paddled in the stream and played Pooh Sticks off the bridge. We climbed on the 1000 year old Yew Tree and built mini Stick Man houses.

We enjoyed being able to eat our lunches outside in the sunshine.

Well done to everyone you made all the adults very proud.

  • Year 1 Family Roast Dinner

    Tue 14 May 2019

On such a beautiful day it was great to see the children enjoying their lunch with their grown ups. The kitchen staff did a fantastic job, as usual, to ensure everyone enjoyed a tasty roast dinner...the ice buns looked particularly tasty!

As I walked around the hall I could see and hear the children using their table manors, well done! It must have been great to have your grown up pop in for lunch. Those children who didn't have a grown up come along enjoyed their tasty dinner with their friends and they also showed great table manors.

Well done to all those who managed to have a 'clean plate' and received a sticker from Mrs MacLauchlan...I even saw some grown ups proudly sporting a sticker for putting their knives and forks together!!

Today after school WISA held a Disco to celebrate May Day. As you can see from the photographs everyone had great fun.

B.J. the D.J got everyone joining in with the dancing and we also played games and had dancing competitions. B.J. also had some new glasses and a hat that made us all laugh.

Mrs MacLauchlan was very pleased because everyone remembered to follow the Golden Rules. Well done! Thank you to everyone who helped.
