• Enclosed Play Area

  Over the summer holidays work has been carried out to improve the Enclosed Play Area. As you can see from the photographs the area has been resurfaced and is now looking very smart.

  We are currently waiting for some new fencing to be completed but the pupils are already enjoying the new facilities.

  A special thank you to Mrs Saunders who secured a grant that has covered the cost of most of the improvements.    

  

• Year 2 Castle Banquet

  What a wonderful first week back for Year 2 pupils! We kick-started our Towers, Tunnels and Turrets topic for this half term with an introduction to the different types of people who would be found in a castle and learned about the development of castle designs. Yesterday all Year 2 pupils made preparations for a royal class banquet used to inspire and captivate their imagination. Pupils made special hats, decorative place mats and rather professional looking bread loaves! Having learnt about traditional medieval music, pupils practised their courtly dancing ready to perform during the banquet.

   

  All Lords and Ladies in each class stood to welcome their King and Queen and were only allowed to sit down at the banqueting tables when they were given permission to do so. Medieval music was played to set the mood. The food served included delicious rustic looking bread with jam, a selection of grapes, cheese cubes, blackcurrant juice to replicate mead for the Lords and Ladies but wine for the King and Queen in goblets. The guests were impressed with their feast and the King and Queen equally impressed with the table manners of their invited guests. Following the banquet, the entertainment included a hilarious pair of clumsy jesters who tried their hardest to throw and catch scarves! Dancing groups performed their graceful routines and the King proudly knighted a selection of the guests with a sword.

   

  Thank you for being such amazing Year 2 pupils this week, you have worked very hard and made our class banquets memorable.

  Was medieval dancing slow and graceful or fast and energetic?

  Why did the butler taste the food before the King and Queen ate it?

  Is a royal banquet held in the kitchen, great hall or chapel?

  

• Surprise Assembly for Mrs Leeson and Mr Maksymiw

  With only three days in which to learn it the Year 1 and 2 pupils have worked very hard with Mrs MacLauchlan and Miss Hussey to prepare a song for the special assembly this morning.

   

  The children all sang really well and were well supported by the rest of the staff. Here are the words:

   

  Mrs Leeson will be leaving very soon

  You might think that she has swallowed a balloon!

  Yes she's going to have a baby, going to have a baby

  Going to have a baby very soon.

   

  We don't know if it's a girl or if it's a boy

  But we're sure it will bring lots and lots of joy

  Yes you're going to have a baby, going to have a baby

  Going to have a baby very soon.

   

  Mr Maksymiw's already had good news

  Baby Marley born, bet he would like a snooze

  Yes he's got a lovely baby, got a lovely baby

  Got a lovely baby, What GREAT news!

   

  After singing the song Mrs Leeson and Mr Maksymiw were presented with some special gifts, including a Westfield Bear for Baby Leeson and a Westfield Bear for Marley!

  Best wishes Mrs Leeson as you leave us for a while. We look forward to hearing about your safe arrival in October. We look forward to meeting Marley Maksymiw soon!           

  

• Home Grown Raspberries

  During the summer holiday the raspberries growing in the Westfield garden were ready for picking. They were then frozen and we will be eating them at lunchtime very soon!
