  • Fire Safety Talk

    Fri 09 Mar 2018

Today Year 1 had a very important fire safety talk. A fire safety officer visited the school to explain the importance of staying safe. He gave helpful tips on how to prevent a fire and what to do in an emergency. This was some really important information which the children listened to fantastically. We now know all about how to escape a fire and the best places to exit a building. We also know how fires can be started and how busy the fire service is. Some children even demonstrated a ‘Stop, Drop and Roll’ technique which should be performed if you catch fire.

Can you remember what smoke alarms are for? Do you know what a hoax call is? Can you name any ways in which you can prevent a fire?

Thank you to Leicestershire Fire Service for the very important messages shared today.

  • Year 1 Dinosaur Day

    Thu 08 Mar 2018

    ROOOAAAR!

Today the Year 1 children had an amazing prehistoric experience. A huge dinosaur called Mollie came into Westfield Infant School to visit us, can you remember what type of dinosaur it was and if it was a herbivore, carnivore or an omnivore?

The children were able to share what they have already learnt about dinosaurs and top up their knowledge through interactive discussion. They had the chance to stand next to and move around the Mollie which gave them a first hand experience of what it would to travel back millions of year and meet a real dinosaur. Can you remember how many millions of years ago dinosaurs lived? Can you also remember the year the first dinosaur bone was found, and what type of bone it was?

The Year 1 children will be putting all the excitement and enthusiasm built up this morning into their independent writing tomorrow! The teachers can't to read it.

A huge well done to all the children for showing great bravery and enthusiasm this morning when meeting Mollie the dinosaur. Please tell you grown ups at home all about the experience as you look through the photos below.

This afternoon everyone helped to make the school grounds spick and span for the Great British Spring Clean!
  • Year 1 Roast Dinner Day

    Wed 07 Mar 2018

Thank you to all that came along to join the Year 1 children for a roast dinner. The children love having the opportunity to eat with their grown ups from home and it is always a hotly anticipated and very successful day.

The food smelt and tasted great and there were lots of clean plates (from the adults and the children) so a big thank you to the kitchen staff for making the lunchtime so enjoyable.

Please have a look at the photos below.

  • Stick Man Trip Day 2

    Tue 06 Mar 2018

Another successful visit to Stick Man. Class 2 and 3 had a fantastic day and everyone was very well behaved. Linda and the bus driver both commented on how polite the children were.

We went on the woodland walk, had a chance to see faces on the trees and played Pooh Sticks in the stream. Unfortunately it was too deep to paddle today. We climbed on the 1000 year old Yew Tree and built mini Stick Man houses.

The weather was chilly and little rainy at times but it didn't stop us from having lots of fun!

Can you tell your grown ups your favourite part of the trip?

  • Stick Man Trip Day 1

    Mon 05 Mar 2018

What a fantastic day we all had at Stick Man! The children were extremely well behaved and were a credit to the school.

Amazingly, the weather stayed dry and the sun came out!

We went on the woodland walk, had a chance to see faces on the trees and played Pooh Sticks in the stream. Unfortunately it was too deep to paddle today. We climbed on the 1000 year old Yew Tree and built mini Stick Man houses.

Everyone really enjoyed their packed lunch too before we got back on the coach and headed back to school.

Well done to everyone you made all the adults very proud.

  • Class 1 Assembly - Circus

    Thu 01 Mar 2018

Roll up! Roll up!  Class 1 treated us all today with a look inside the Westfield Circus.  They showed us some of the things they have been learning with Ben during their PE sessions on a Friday.

The Ringmaster announced each of the star acts and we were able to watch acrobats, jugglers, clowns, a balancing act and even some prancing ponies.

The circus was finished off with their Grand Finale and Class 1 sang a song all about the circus.

    Well done Class 1!
