  • Children Around the World - Years 1 and 2 Christmas Play

    Tue 15 Dec 2015

Our Christmas Play this year started with eight children discovering an ancient box of Christmas crackers. These were not ordinary crackers, they were magical ones that transported the children to six different countries around the world. As the children pulled each cracker they told parts of the very special Christmas story that began in Bethlehem many, many years ago.

The children were in turn welcomed to Spain, Hawaii, India, America, China and Africa and were treated with what can only be described as highly professional dances that reflected these countries!

The audiences were astonished at the dance moves the children (and the teachers) had learned and ably performed with smiles on their faces! The speakers did an amazing job at speaking clearly and the catchy international songs reminded us all of the real reason for the season. Can you remember what this is?

The play ended with the Nativity scene and a reminder that the journey of Christmas still continues with people all over the world celebrating the birth of Jesus, God’s own precious son who came to show us all his love for each and every one.

What was your favourite song and why?

How do you celebrate Christmas at home?

Can you find out how to say Happy Christmas for your class country?

Can you remember who visited baby Jesus in Bethlehem?

Thank you for supporting the pupils with learning lines and even practicing dances with them in your lounge!

We wish all of our Westfield families a very happy Christmas and a peaceful New Year!

  • Year 1 and Year 2 Christmas Party!

    Tue 15 Dec 2015

What a fabulous afternoon we all had!

We began by all dancing to our favourite songs from our Christmas play - (Africa and Happy Talk) - even the teachers knew all the moves!

Next we played party games including 'Festive Stations' and 'Pass the Parcel' which was so much fun!

After lots of dancing we all sat down to sing some lovely festive songs - we sang so beautifully that a very special visitor arrived -SANTA! Santa even joined in a few songs with us!

Santa was then very generous - giving each class a Christmas Present! Some were very heavy and all looked very exciting!

We then went back to our classrooms to carry on the party and eat lovely party food! Santa came to see us all and reminded us to go to bed early on Christmas Eve, and to keep following the Golden Rules!

Finally we opened our presents - Can you remember what you got?

  • Another busy day in India.......

    Tue 15 Dec 2015
We started the day by visiting St Mathias School and the sponsor girls to present the gifts. It was important that we got there early as the girls were sitting their exams in the morning. We gave gifts to our sponsor student Jarjmiya then Clemencia who is Westfield Junior School's sponsor student, Kali Vari who is Ann's sponsor student and finally Poorarasi and Subameena who are both Andrew's sponsor students. They were all absolutely delighted with their Christmas gifts despite the fact they were just about to go in for their exam.
We then spent a short time with the nursery children reading stories and singing songs. We really wanted the children to have some more toys and Sister Rose gave us some suggestions. After a quick trip to a toy shop we returned with bags of presents. Again they were overjoyed with their gifts and there was a lot of giggling going on.
After lunch we were back in the classroom in the Primary School. In the last session we took the children outside and showed them some parachute games. I don't think the children could quite believe their eyes! It was great fun and the teachers in the school were excited about using it with their classes.
In the evening we went to see the Sister and girls at St Francis of Assisi. They greeted us with more lovely singing and showed us the computer suite provided by Pondi-link.
  • India update

    Mon 14 Dec 2015

Sunday evening-spent the evening with Sister Rose and Mother Superior. She showed us around the convent which she shares  with 30 sisters. There was a beautiful chapel that had survived the flood damage but other areas were going to need some repairs. We had fun trying to get around the top floor in the dark because the electricity was not safe. Brumas clung on tight because he was a little bit afraid. Mrs Parkes had a torch on her phone and came to the rescue.

Monday-we went to Mathias Primary School. We had a very important job to do and that was to cut the ribbon to officially open the new playground. The welcome we got was amazing with fantastic singing and dancing.

The classes we taught in were upper primary with pupils aged 9-10, 10-11, and 11-12 years. The children were delighted with their whiteboards. They practised writing on the lines using their letter sounds. One class had remembered all the sound work they had done with Miss Hamilton and Mrs Guest even doing the action and Makaton signs. When it got cooler we were able to go outside onto the wonderful new playground. As you can see the children really enjoyed their new play time games! Don't forget to look at the blog and ask us any questions. Would love to hear from you as we are missing you all.

  • We made it!

    Sun 13 Dec 2015
Hello from India. The journey was very smooth and Brumas enjoyed his inflight meals. Children look at a map of India, Pondicherry is on the coast. See if you can find out the name of the ocean we are looking out at. It also has the name 'Bay of ...'. The year one and year two children sang about it in the Christmas play.  What is it called?
We have spent this Sunday afternoon with Sister Rose and the girls. Sister Rose shared a delicious lunch. Mrs Parkes and I tried papaya fruit for the first time. This had been growing in the courtyard. We were not too sure but at least we gave it a try. Do you know what a papaya looks like or tastes like?
We were then able to play some circle games with the girls and as you can see in the pictures we had a lot of fun and there was a lot of laughter. We also played some board games, this became quite competitive.
We are meeting up with Sister Rose again this evening who is taking us to see the Mother Superior.
    Be writing again soon.
Enjoy the theatre trip year 2
