  • Mr and Mrs Harrison visit Year 1

    Fri 02 Oct 2015

Today Mr and Mrs Harrison came into school to tell Year 1 children about the toys they played with when they were children. This talk links with our Memory Box topic where we are thinking about our own memories as well as learning about other people's memories from the past.

Mrs Harrison had dolls that were made with cloth bodies and a pot face. She had to be careful because she did not have carpets in her house so if she dropped her dolls they would break. She had a dolls house which was made out of cardboard not wood (there was not much spare wood around because of the war). She only had a little bit of furniture to go in it that someone made for her out of scraps of wood. Mrs Harrison could play skipping games where the skipping rope would be across the road because not many people had cars when she was little.

Mr Harrison had a toy fort and lots of soldiers that were made of metal and painted. He also had a clockwork train that moved around the track when you wound it up. Mr Harrison showed us how to play ‘snobs’ with stones and how to spin a top.

We really enjoyed listening to Mr and Mrs Harrison and learning about toys from the past.

  • Sister Rose and Sister Rajamani - Day 4

    Fri 02 Oct 2015

Sister Rose and Sister Rajamani enjoyed their visit to Healthfield today where they watched a presentation and met pupils who were more than happy to listen to an update about St. Mathias pupils. The 'PondyPeeps' were introduced to the Sisters and thoroughly enjoyed sharing their mission for supporting the pupils in Pondicherry.

Thank you to all staff and pupils at Healthfield for making Sister Rose and Sister Rajamani feel so welcome. They are grateful for your interest and hard work with raising funds to support them.

  • Class 9 Assembly - Make a great start to your day!

    Fri 02 Oct 2015

What a super assembly by Class 9 today reminding each of us how to start the day in a healthy way! Pupils reminded us of the importance of a bedtime routine, which includes sticking to a sensible time like half past 7. They gave the audience three options of the best thing to do before bedtime and highlighted that watching television and playing on PlayStation would wake our brains up rather than prepare our bodies for rest. Class 9 recommended a bedtime story. Why don't you choose one tonight?

Breakfast choices were also discussed and we heard some very shocking news about the amount of sugar added to some of our favourite cereals. A good healthy breakfast definitely gives us the very best start to the day. A fantastic song called 'What did you have for breakfast?' gave us some super ideas for this. Can you remember any of them?

There were plenty of smiles around the hall when the Class 9 effortlessly performed a morning brain gym routine called 'I'm alive, alert, awake, enthusiastic!'

Well done Class 7 and 9!
