  • Friendship Afternoon

    Wed 16 Nov 2016

This week in England is Anti-Bullying week.  The theme this year is ‘Power For Good’.

As part of this we had a Friendship Afternoon in school today.  The children were randomly mixed up across the year groups and went to different classes.  The aim was to make new friends, to talk about how to be a good friend and to discuss how to stop bullying.

The children started by watching a PowerPoint presentation about bullying and what would be the best ways to react in different scenarios.  The children spent time playing and working together on a number of different activities such as bracelet making, role play, construction and iPads to name but a few!

The children that visited the Reception classrooms took part in an activity where they thought of words to describe a good friend.  They then wrote these on paper chains and linked them together.

In the Year 1 classes the children enjoyed decorating biscuits and then choosing a friend to give them to.

Year 2 classes worked with a new friend to decorate a pair of paper chain of dolls.

All the activities enabled the pupils to work with children that they wouldn’t normally have the opportunity to work with.  The children had lots of fun together and hopefully will feel more confident and secure in school having made more friends in different classes and year groups.

  • Class 10's Ocarina Performance

    Wed 16 Nov 2016

Class 10 have been learning how to play the Ocarina at a deeper level since Year 1. This morning they performed 'Frere Jacques' to the rest of the school and they were fantastic! Some children even knew the song and they were heard singing along.

Well done Class 10 for your wonderful performance! You all stayed in time with each other and it looked like everyone was concentrating hard.

  • Bible Presentation

    Mon 14 Nov 2016

During our assembly this morning we were joined by Rev Malcolm Clarke. He regularly comes to lead our assembly but this morning he had a very important job to do. At Westfield Infant School all the children have the opportunity to have a very special illustrated Bible. The Bibles are kept in school for the children to look at and refer to. When a child leaves the school they take the Bible with them so they have it at home.

Malcolm presented all the Reception pupils and those children in Year 1 and 2 who have joined us since the last presentation with a Bible.

The Bibles are provided at a reduced cost thanks to the Bible for Schools organisation and it is hoped that the children will treasure them for years to come.

As you can see from the photographs the children were very proud to receive the Bibles and were soon looking at them and taking great care as they turned the pages.

  • Remembrance Day

    Fri 11 Nov 2016

In assembly today we learnt why we wear poppies. We watched a video about why we have a 2 minute silence at 11o'clock and understood that it is to remember the soldiers that have died in the First and Second World Wars as well as other wars since then.

Mr Harries reminded children that there will be events happening across Hinckley and beyond for Remembrance on Sunday as we also have a silence on the closest Sunday to the 11th of November.

    C is for Crazy Comets

E is for Earth, our favourite planet

Class 6  then told us the names of all of the planets in our Solar System.

Can you remember the name of the planet closet to the Sun?

Class 6 then told us about the two American Astronauts that landed on the Moon many years a go.

    Can you remember their names?

Class 6 shared there Art work of the famous constellation 'The Plough'.

What did you think it looked like?

The assembly ended with a different version of the song 'Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star'.

  • Year 2 'Local Area' Walk.

    Tue 08 Nov 2016

This afternoon, the Year 2 children took a short walk around the local area as part of this term's topic 'Street Detectives'. The children had to use their 'good looking' to spot how and what the land had been used for. Houses and shops were a very popular use of land, but there were other uses too. Can you remember what other types of buildings you spotted?

The children were also great at spotting and discussing features of the area that were either physical or human (man-made). Share with your adults why roads and pavements are human features? Can you recall a physical feature you and your buddy spotted?

The children were well-behaved and represented the school well. Great job children. We will be mapping out our findings in the next few days.

The children loved playing with the sand and we are all very grateful for the kind donation.

The children enjoyed talking to the visitors and showing them their new playground.
