Year 1 have had a fantastic day learning even more about dinosaurs. This morning they all had a workshop all about fossils. Every child became a palaeontologist for the morning and discovered dinosaur fossils. Can you remember which fossils you found?
Then we were visited by MIllie the dinosaur who was very friendly. Millie was a T-Rex and the children had lots of fun roaring like Millie. Can you remember what Millie likes to eat?
Thank you Year 1 for a fantastic morning of fun and learning!
It was a pleasure to welcome the children from St Margarets school in Stoke Golding to Westfield Infant School. We were able to show them around our wonderful school and introduce them to our Westfield ways!
All the children from both schools behaved fantastically and a great time was had by all. We look forward to seeing them again soon.
This afternoon Class 2 got to meet the newborn chicks. The children were really excited and couldn't wait to hold them.
We all sat really quietly and each took a turn to hold a chick. The children were very gentle and all enjoyed giving them a stroke.
Afterwards we said goodbye and washed our hands properly using what we learnt during healthy school week.
Today Class 3 all got to hold the chicks. We were very excited!
All the children were very sensible and quiet so that we did not scare the chicks.
After we had held them we all remembered to wash our hands!
Congratulations to members of the School Council who ran a very successful Bring and Buy Sale today! They worked very hard to set up the sale and to sell items to pupils and adults. The Bring and Buy Sale raised a huge £355.46 for the charity UNICEF. Every year UNICEF has a different theme for their 'Day for Change' and this year the money raised will be going towards protecting 'every child in danger'. Many children across the world are caught in emergency or dangerous situations and UNICEF support health and nutrition, education and child protection. Thank you for all of your support and the money raised will be going to a fantastic cause.
On Tuesday we had 10 eggs arrive at school and we have been looking after them very carefully.
We waited patiently and all 10 eggs have now hatched into 10 beautiful chicks. They will be visiting all the classrooms over the next two weeks so look out for more pictures to follow!
The children are really excited and are having to be quiet so that the chicks can have a good rest.
Well done children!
Today was the last day of healthy school week and it was great to see so many Westfield families starting the day by having breakfast together and then reading together in the classrooms.
The healthy school assembly today showed everyone all the exciting, interesting and fun facts the children have learned this week about being healthy. Class 7 started filling the board by showing us all they knew all about keeping our teeth healthy. Class 4 told us all about washing hands, Class 5 showed us they knew the names of our bones (including the scientific names!), Class 10 told us the importance of getting a good nights sleep, Class 6 treated us to some Zumba, Class 8 talked to us about Heartstart, Class 2 reminded us of the importance of being safe online, Class 1 showed their fantastic graph of the different foods they had tried, Class 9 were very knowledgeable about the 'eat well' plate and lastly Class 3 showed us their healthy dinner plates.
Mrs MacLauchlan presented the kitchen staff with some flowers (and a box of chocolates to share - just a little bit of chocolate as a treat!) to say thank you for their hard work this week and the healthy school week raffle was also drawn. Well done to the winners!
Everyone's behaviour and singing was amazing during assembly - it must be because we've all been so healthy this week!
Thank you to all the parents/carers who came into breakfast and spent time in the classrooms this week.
Lots of families began the day in a healthy way by having breakfast together then sharing stories in the classroom. Thank you to all the families who have visited children's classrooms this week, it means a lot to the children. If you haven't had chance yet there is still one day left! Hopefully we will see you tomorrow.
The last classes of children had their chance to visit the Life Education Centre today. This has been an experience enjoyed by all.
Can you remember 5 different ways you keep healthy? Tell your grown ups what you have learnt!
Pupils continued to work hard in their classrooms too today and there has been lots of preparations going on ready for the Healthy School Week assembly tomorrow. We look forward to finding out what each class have learnt and enjoyed!
