The following additional facilities and resources are available for pupils with SEND:
Resources/advice recommended by the various departments within the Specialist Teaching Service
Learning Support Assistant time to benefit those pupils who need extra support directed by the relevant teacher e.g. LSAs to support Sparkler English and Maths Groups, SALT/Social and Communication Groups/Motor Skills/Reading intervention groups
Assistant SENCo time to work with identified pupils
Differentiated classes in Year 1 and Year 2 for English and Maths, with provision continually monitored
Intervention Groups in Early Years Foundation Stage to cater for needs of pupils within the cohort
Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN) staff experts and support from designated Speech and Language Therapists
Makaton signs and symbols are incorporated into school life to promote and support communication
Support groups e.g. Luncheon Clubs, Lunchtime Sports Group
Mud Buster Programme
Significant partnerships with other schools include our links with Menphys Nursery where pupils can use the facilities. There is a close working partnership with Dorothy Goodman Special School, Oakfield Short Stay School and Ash Field Teaching Alliance (AFTA).
We also provide:
an enclosed play area attached to Class 7 (MLD unit) available for all pupils to develop gross motor skills in a safe and secure environment
further outdoor areas around school to enable lessons to take place in an outdoor environment
a Play Pod to encourage creative and imaginative play, a Friendship Train and Trim Trail with large climbing and balancing equipment
resources recommended by Visually and Hearing Impaired Specialists
staff expertise in Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN) and support from designated Speech and Language Therapist
wheelchair access within the main school building and the modular building and there is wheelchair access to all areas used by relevant pupils
toilets for disabled pupils are installed and the design of the building is suitable for pupils with physical disabilities. There is a shower and changing area.
lowered ceilings and carpeted floored to improve acoustics for hearing impaired pupils. There is a sound field system in MLD Unit. Learning Support Assistants in the MLD Unit are experienced with microphones and have had hearing impaired training.
