The School Council worked very hard to prepare for the Bring and Buy Sale in aid of UNICEF. Thank you to everyone who sent items in, made cakes, joined us as customers and supported the raffle.
Thanks to all your efforts the total raised was a massive £363! The theme for the UNICEF day for change this year was 'Schools for all' so the money will be going to a very worthy cause.
If your house now seems rather cluttered please don't panic because we will soon be collecting items for the Summer Fayre!
A wonderful time was had by all at Beaumanor Hall when Class 1,3 and 7 went into the woods on a stickman adventure! We made our own journey stick, climbed over logpiles, walked through the deep dark woods, shot a bow and arrow and paddled in the stream!
Behaviour was outstanding as was the weather! Well done Everybody!
Thank you to everyone who joined us for the final day of breakfast and reading, the children have really loved having you in school with them this week. The whole school then met for our Healthy School Week assembly. Thank you to each class for their hard work this week, everyone made excellent contributions to our Healthy School Week display and we all learnt lots by hearing about what each class has been learning.
The assembly finished with the most exciting part of the week, THE RAFFLE! Every morning at breakfast the children signed in and were then entered into the prize draw to win an amazing hamper full of healthy food to share with their family. We had five very happy children and families who were delighted to win their hamper. Thank you to everyone who took part and made this week such a success.
Another day at Westfield Infant School started with a fantastic healthy breakfast! When the children had eaten their breakfast they were ready for another day of learning! Eating breakfast gives us energy to help us to concentrate and to learn. We need lots of energy so we can keep learning all day long! Reception learnt about how to stay healthy in their classrooms today. They learnt when, why and how to wash our hands properly. They even learnt a song to sing when they are washing their hands. Ask any of the reception children nicely and they will teach you the song! Year 1 and 2 children were busy learning about how to keep our teeth clean, our skeleton, our organs and even writing poetry on their emotions. At Westfield Infant School we know that it is important to be happy to be healthy!
We have had a very busy and exciting day at Westfield Infant School for the start of Healthy School Week! It was an early start for some families this morning! They arrived at school for breakfast and then went to the classrooms for a Family Reading session. This was a great start to Healthy School Week with the children enjoying a healthy breakfast and also getting an extra reading opportunity.
Thank you to those families who joined us this morning. Breakfast will be served from 8.00 a.m. every day this week. Family Reading sessions will take place between 8.30 and 9.15 a.m. Pre-school children and babies are also welcome!
Throughout the day the children have been learning about things they can do to lead a healthy lifestyle. The whole school enjoyed a Healthy Living Show called 'Invasion of the Summer Puddings' by Quantum Theatre Group. The show was very entertaining and the children learnt about healthy foods and keeping fit.
During the afternoon reception children attended a Karate session where they learnt to punch, kick and stay safe. Children were reminded that any karate moves are ONLY to be used in a karate lesson. Year 1 children had a visit from the Fire Service and learnt how to stay safe in the event of a fire and the Community Police Officers talked to Year 2 pupils about being safe in the community.
Well done to everyone for a fantastic day!
