  • Sports Morning

    Tue 19 Jun 2018

What a great morning and the weather was perfect!

We began our Sports Morning with our EYFS pupils - all the children took part in either running or obstacle races being cheered on by family and friends.

They were followed by Year 1 races that included running, skipping, quoit races, and finally the Year 2 children took part in running, skipping, quoit and sack races!

To end our sports morning we all enjoyed watching the toddlers compete in a running race and the parents/carers getting into the spirit of the obstacle course!

Everyone who took part showed great resilience, perseverance and confidence.

A big thank you to all the family and friends that came to support our event and cheer on the children.

  • Year 2 Burbage Common Activity Day

    Fri 15 Jun 2018

Year 2 pupils and their grown-ups had an exciting, action-packed day at Burbage Common. After some warm up parachute games and den building we split into three groups. Each group got the opportunity to spend time with Sarah from Dogs Trust and Lyra her dog. Pupils had a quiz linked to caring for dogs and they learnt the importance of staying safe around dogs. Can you remember what to do if a dog approaches you?

Other activities included orienteering and bush craft skills which were put to use when printing leaves and flowers onto fabric. The pupils thoroughly enjoyed making ash bread and baking it over the camp fire. Can you remember what additional ingredients you added to your ash bread?

We had a fantastic time. Well done to all pupils for excellent behaviour.

  • Westfield Family Challenge Mile!

    Fri 08 Jun 2018

First of all a huge 'well done!' to all that came along and took on the Challenge Mile. It was great to see so many children, adults and families take part in such an event. As a school we recognise the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle and how staying active can help up keep fit.

A thank you to Mr Adcock for helping organise the event and providing the fantastic T-Shirts for the first 30 Westfield pupils that managed to complete the mile. We hope it has inspired you all to get active and continue to take part in physical activities. It was great to see the perseverance and determination displayed by all!

The smoothie bike proved to be a hit! It was a welcome healthy treat to enjoy after participating in the challenge.

All the Westfield Infant School Children that completed the 'Challenge Mile' will receive a certificate for their efforts in a celebration assembly next week. Thank you to all the staff who came along and made the event possible!

  • Boundary Farm Visit

    Wed 06 Jun 2018

This afternoon we had beautiful weather to visit Boundary Farm for our fourth trip this year.

Farmer Richard and Rachel took us on a farm walk explaining all the farm processes that are happening at this time of year.

We saw a silage heap which was being constructed. The grass from all 90 acres (90 football fields in size) had been cut yesterday. It was pulled by tractor in a trailer and placed in a huge heap, covered by 2 layers of plastic sheets to keep it warm. The grass then pickles ready for the cows to eat in the winter.

We saw sweetcorn plants growing in the fields as well as a field of 200 sheep. The sheep didn't have a wool coat as they were sheared last week to keep them cool for the summer. Farmer Richard showed us the wheat growing in the field and we all got to take one plant home.

We saw the chickens and felt how soft they were. We also looked at a plough which is some huge machinery used to turn soil over.

We had a fantastic time once again and the children were very enthusiastic and really well behaved.

  • Year 1 Outdoor Adventures

    Tue 05 Jun 2018

The Year 1 Outdoor Adventure Evening was a great success.  The parents, carers and children took part in three different activities in the school grounds.  First in the trim trail they had to build a den using the available materials and then it was tested to see it was waterproof, with them inside it.  As you can imagine some people got very wet!

Next it was off to the hall to try their hand at some circus skills under the watchful eye of Mr Burrows. It was great fun!

Finally on the patio there was an opportunity to practice their ball skills.  We all had a great time and as a treat we had a hotdog and a drink.

You could have a go at making a den at home and also have a go at juggling like in the circus.  Tell your teacher how you get on.  Reception children look out for this amazing adventure next year!
