The Year 2 pupils had a great day at Tamworth Castle. They roleplayed being servants and setting the table for the Lord and Lady Ferres. Also they all took part in an armoury drill with their own bills. A real highlight of the day was going into the dungeons and climbing up the steep stairs to the top of the tower. The children commented on what a good look out the tower would have been because they could see the enemy approaching.
The children were all very well behaved, it was a pleasure to take them. What a great day! Only a short half an hour journey away, well worth a visit as a family.
Today was a very exciting day as we had a surprise visitor at lunchtime! Pudsey Bear came to see the children eating their lunch and he was very impressed to see the Pudsey Bear biscuits the children were enjoying.
Pudsey could not stay long because Children in Need Day is his busiest day of the year but he did find the time to walk all the way round school and he also went out onto the playground to see all the children having fun.
To celebrate anti-bullying week 2013 Westfield Infant School held a friendship afternoon. During this afternoon pupils had the oportunity to make friends with pupils from different classes and year groups. All pupils were encouraged to think about the saying "sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me" and whether or not it was true. We thought about the hurt caused by using unkind words and how important it was to say kind words. Pupils then had lots of fun with a new friend completing activities such as making a bear with a curly tongue with kind words on, making a friendship firework, a friendship garden, decorating a biscuit with a freind, constructing, playing games and even working together to use an iPad. A great afternoon was had by all and the children all agreed that pupils at Westfield Infant School use kind words.
WISA organised a Disco today and everyone who came had a great time! At the end of the school day the children changed into their favourite clothes. The disco was to celebrate Children in Need Day which is tomorrow and outfits were complimented with Children in Need headbands, T -shirts and wristbands!
Thank you to everyone who supported the Children in Need Disco. Half the money raised will be sent to the Children in Need charity fund and the other half will be added to WISA funds.
As you can see from the photographs two new pupils also came to the Disco! We are currently waiting for them to be named by the children. Just before the end of term they will be travelling to India where they will be staying to help the children at the school in Pondicherry have a better understanding of what it is like to be a pupil at Westfield Infant School.
The Junior Librarians had an interesting visit to Hinckley Library where they learnt more about their role from Catherine. She told pupils about the difference between finding the correct place to put fiction and non-fiction books away on the shelves. The Junior Librarians where able to share with Catherine the rules they had thought of for our school library.
We are hoping Catherine will come into school at the end of the year to see what a good job our Junior Librarians have done.
This morning Rev Malcolm Clarke came to present our Reception pupils and new pupils in year 1 and 2 with a Bible. This is through the Bible for Schools organisation and all the children will now have a beautifully illustrated Bible for Children that they can look at in class.
When children leave Westfield Infant School they can take the Bible with them and they will hopefully keep it and treasure this special book.
As you can see from the photographs the children were very pleased to receive their Bible and they were soon looking at the pictures and identifying stories they already know.
A big Thank You to Rev Clarke for making the presentation so special and also our thanks to the Charity Bible for Schools for supplying The Bibles.
