    Wed 10 Feb 2016

Both breakfast and reading in classrooms was enjoyed again this morning by many families. What a great healthy way to start the day! Bug Club has been a very popular activity so don't forget to log on at home if you'd like another chance to read your books.

More classes enjoyed a trip to the Life Education Centre where they learnt how to live a healthy lifestyle including remembering that getting lots of sleep is vital to help them grow and to learn well the next day.

It was Year 1's chance to take part in zumba classes this afternoon. This was an excellent way to get children active and excited about exercise.

The school nurses visited again! Reception learnt all about washing their hands and how important it is to wash those germs away. Year 2 children learnt more about dental hygiene. Can you remember which foods are good for your teeth and why? Which food and drinks will you avoid or only have as a very special treat?

  • Healthy School Week - Day 1

    Mon 08 Feb 2016

We have had a fantastic start to Healthy School Week! Thank you to all the children and grown ups who joined us for breakfast. This was a great way to start the day. Don't worry if you didn't make it to breakfast today, you can bring your grown ups to have breakfast from 8am every day this week!

After breakfast lots of families visited classrooms to do some reading together. It was great to see so many children enjoying sharing stories on Bug Club, looking at story sacks and learning from non-fiction books. This is available from 8.30am until 9.15am every day this week so again, don't worry if you didn't manage to read together today, there are 4 days left!

We were so lucky to have a visit from Quantum Theatre this morning. The actors did a play called goals! It was all about healthy eating. We learnt lots of important messages in a fun and entertaining way. We learnt about eating a healthy breakfast. Can you remember which breakfast cereals are healthy? What do lots of cereals contain that is bad for our teeth? We also learnt that we need to do 60 minutes of exercise a day. Can you remember lots of different forms exercise we can do to keep us fit? We also know that we need to eat 5 portions of fruit and vegetables a day. Can you remember exciting ways to eat them, for example dip it! See if you can tell your grown ups and show them the actions.

Throughout the day children have been learning about living a healthy lifestyle. Lots of activities have been enjoyed such as learning about the eat well plate and food groups, zumba, yoga, getting active using ladders, learning who to call in an emergency, staying safe and lots more.

  • Recorder Assembly

    Fri 05 Feb 2016

We all had a lovely treat in assembly today when the first recorder group showed us some of the music they had learnt.

Mrs Parkes told us how when you first start learning to play the recorder the very first note you learn is B, then A and then G and the recorder group demonstrated by playing songs using all of these notes.  They even played a round!

Wow!  What fantastic recorder playing!  Well done!

  • Class 1 Assembly - Mama Panya's Pancakes

    Fri 05 Feb 2016

What a fantastic assembly from Class 1 today!

They showed us how they can sort foods into whether they are healthy or not so healthy, they told us about all the places we can buy food from (and reminded us how important it is to think about how far the food has travelled).  We learnt how to make pancakes, heard their pancake song and then watched as they acted brilliantly the story of Mama Panya's Pancakes.

    Well done Class 1!

  • Year 2 Chinese New Year

    Fri 05 Feb 2016

What an amazing start to the Year 2 Chinese New Year celebrations! We impressed our visitor with a lot of our expert knowledge already - Chinese New Year starts on Monday 8th February and 2016 is the year of the Monkey. We were taught that red is the colour of bravery and green means friendship. It was brilliant to see the lion and dragon head-dresses and we learnt that the longer the tail the more luck the Chinese believe they will have for the new year. Our dance skills were superb as we learnt to shuffle, bow, karate freeze and change our height as we moved around in a circle. We treated the props we used with respect. The decorative parasols and fans were incredibly delicate. Our day continued with retelling the Chinese New Year story, creating colourful monkey masks and completing a fun wordsearch.

  • Class 7 Fine Motor Skills Activities

    Fri 05 Feb 2016

On Wednesday 3 February we were very busy in Class 7 working on our fine motor skills.  There were lots of activities in the classroom including, making a pasta necklace, threading spaghetti through a colander and tracing our letters.

Mrs Saunders and Mrs Davis reminded us that we can chalk and paint outside and use a paintbrush with water to help us learn our letter shapes.

  • Year 1 Stop, Drop and Roll

    Tue 02 Feb 2016

Year 1 received some very important messages today from a fire fighter! He taught us that we should 'NEVER PLAY WITH MATCHES' and we learnt how dangerous fire can be. If we find matches or a lighter, can you remember what you should do?

We also learnt that if anything on our body does catch on fire we should immediately STOP, DROP, cover your face and ROLL. Everybody had a go at practising this so they know what to do in an emergency.

The fire fighter also taught the children about the importance of a smoke alarm at home. If it goes off they should GET DOWN as smoke rises and CRAWL to the nearest exit. They know they must also shout: FIRE, GET OUT to alert people around them.

Children were also able to able the fire procedure at school and they know that if the fire alarm sounds at school they do not need to shout. They move to their nearest fire exit, answer the register and wait for a grown up to say that it is safe to go back in to school.
