  • Pyjamarama Day

    Fri 07 Jun 2019

Today was very exciting as we all got to come to school in our Pyjamas!

We did this to celebrate Pyjamarama, organised by the Book Trust to help remind us how important bedtime stories are.

Like Book Trust  we want every child to experience the warmth, joy and comfort of bedtime reading. We don’t want a single child to miss out on the amazing benefits of reading together, because we know what a difference it makes to life chances.

We started the day by enjoying lots of great stories in our classrooms with our grown ups (who also came in their Pyjamas!).

During our Friday Assembly Mrs MacLauchlan reminded us about the importance of having a good bedtime routine, which should include a bedtime story to help us have a good nights sleep. Mrs MacLauchlan read us a story about different animals getting ready for bed.

Throughout the day we have enjoyed lots of different and exciting stories. Some children in Year 2 even went to different classes to read a story!

During the afternoon we had a visit from some Year 6 children from the Junior school who have been celebrating Pyjamarama day too! They came to read us some stories. How lucky were we!

We all had a great day and all loved being in our pyjamas at school!

  • Year 1 Assembly - Around the World

    Thu 06 Jun 2019

Year 1's assembly took us All around the World!

We started off in London at the Great Fire.  Class 5 told us some amazing facts about what it was like.  Can you remember any of the facts?

Year 1 then performed London's Burning in a round.  Well done Year 1! - This can be really tricky.

Next Class 4 told us about modern London and showed some of the amazing models that they made for homework.

We were showed the seven continents and then Class 4 took us to India where we learnt where Pondicherry is and watched a fabulous Indian Dance.

Everyone joined in with a poem about transport around the world and the assembly finished with some children telling us all about their fantastic trip to the Botanic Gardens, where they gathered the ingredients to make a World Cake.

What a wonderful assembly Year 1!  Well done!

  • Year 2 Trip to St Mary's Church

    Tue 04 Jun 2019

This afternoon the children in Year 2 walked into Hinckley town to visit St Mary's C of E Church. The children learnt about some of the important symbols and objects that are special to Christians.

Can you remember what went in the cup and on the plate?

We saw the font that is used for Christenings and the bell that is rung at the end of weddings. We had to cover our ears it was so loud!

The children were shown what the Vicars wear during Church services and were told what each colour means.

Can you remember what colour the Vicar wears during Christmas and Easter?

The children were then given the opportunity to have a look through The Bible and find answers to questions from different parts of The Bible.

Finally we all had a look around the Church to see the stained glass windows and think about what they show.

Can you remember some of the special people on the stained glass windows?

Well done to all of Year 2 as they were very well behaved and really impressed Beverly with their thoughtful answers.

  • Year 2 Maypole Dancing!

    Mon 03 Jun 2019

This afternoon the Year 2's had an exciting treat! A visitor came to Westfield to teach them how to do some Maypole dancing.

The children were all really well behaved all listened to the instructions carefully as some of them were a bit tricky!

The dance came together really well and it looked very colourful.

The children had a great time and it gave Miss Johnson some ideas for the Country dance performance at the Summer Fayre.
