At Westfield Infant School pupils learn to read using a wide variety of phonic based books. In the early stages of reading the books are sorted into phonic sound sets. All of the books are banded according to levels which the teachers closely monitor.
The children read weekly with their Class Teacher or Teaching assistants. These adults will change your child's reading book regularly. We recommend that parents/carers read with their child at home at least twice a week and record in their contact books when they do.
Bookmarks are marked during each reading session, and for every filled bookmark your child is entitled to borrow one of our fabulous story sacks for a week - we have so many to choose from!
