Attendance
At Westfield Infant School we believe that children can only learn effectively if they attend school regularly. It is important too, that children arrive and leave school on time.
Our aims for attendance:
To expect regular attendance and punctuality from all
To actively promote attendance and punctuality
To regularly and clearly communicate with children and parents our attendance and punctuality expectations; i.e. through regular newsletters, the school website and specific attendance letters.
If you are having difficulty getting your child into school or getting into a positive routine at the start of your day, our pastoral team can help! We also have details and guidance available from different services which are there to help so please do not be afraid to get in touch. It is really important that children arrive at school on time so that they can start the school day positively. The start of the school day, when the children are most alert and ready to learn, is the best time to teach Phonics so a prompt start is crucial.
Did you know?
Absence disrupts the education of the individual pupil and the whole class. Are you aware those children who do not attend regularly:
- do not achieve well in exams
- find it difficult to maintain friendships
- are more likely to become involved in crime
- miss out on opportunities in further education and the world of work?
Every minute counts
Frequent absence can add up to a considerable amount of lost learning and can seriously disadvantage your child in adult life.
- 5 minutes late every day means around 3 ½ days of education are missed in a school year.
- a score of 90% in a test would be a good result but 90% attendance means that a child will have missed around 100 lessons over a school year.

Should your child be too ill to attend school, please notify the school office by 8:45am each day of absence. Please refer to the following link which provides further advice on when your child is too ill to attend school.
